Heres to many miles of smiles with your 996.

Bought a 996 turbo from a woman who got it through a divorce that sat for about a year with the intention to bring it back to life when time allows. I sat in and out in the element for a about 7 years. Brakes calipers needed rebuilding, and all fluids changed out. Coolant lines needed to be pinned and so on with all the necessary maintenance items. I gave up due to the lack of time so it went to my wrench. We discovered the injectors and the lines were done, so that was a pretty big expense. I ended up selling it for half of my purchased price. Check on those injectors, David.

Looks like you have most of the bases covered with your list, brake fluid flush is a must. How many miles are on it? I would be in less of a rush on other oils but they should all be changed if they are due according to mileage.

I might have missed it but this is a 6-speed manual car? I have a factory short shifter in the box for this car, (or any 986/996), if interested.

It looks like it has 17” wheels in photo but can’t be sure, if you got it cheap, I would hunt for some 18” hollow spoke turbo twists, maybe you can find some with good tires on them? When I had my ‘99 996, I found a set with fresh Pilot Sports on them for less than the price of the tires new. Very noticeable upgrade if those are 17s.

Great score David. When you flush the brake fluid, make sure you also flush the clutch fluid at the clutch slave cylinder as well. A pressure bleeder works best for this.

Awesome, I liked my 996TT a lot for what it was, a great highway car.

Don’t forget to check all the bushings too.

I got the 996 running and she purrs like a kitten. Replacing the spark plugs was a very difficult job due to the lack of room, but I was able to complete the job in about 6 hours.

When I was getting ready to flush the brakes, I realized each wheel had a factory lock. I did a lot of research on this forum and found a few different tools and techniques. I tried a reverse thread socket, but it did not quite grab the stud enough.

I contacted a local dealership (Porsche Ontario) and they removed the studs for free! Now it's time to flush the brakes.

I purchased new Hartmann Replica Fuchs (19") and tires and should receive them next week. Everything is coming together nicely!

I took the car on a short drive and she ran as smooth as can be! I didn't push her too hard because she sat for so long and I wanted to ensure there were no hidden suspension issues. I received the Hartmanns and they fill the wheel wells perfectly to my taste. I ordered some new wheel bolts and should receive them this week. I am also going to tint the windows.

All is a matter of personal taste. I liked the original wheels as the Fuchs style paddles look stretched. I also think tinting other than factory looks bad. I think that fad is over. For folks in really sunny hot areas there is window coating that does the job w/o the dye.

I'm still a big fan of the C4 but ones I saw didn't have a wing. Clean lines as I previously mentioned. The whole 996 line up needed those rear fenders. The only one that gets my 2nd look is a 996 cab; something about the top line helps the weak rear quarters.

Your car, enjoy. Glad you got it running with no drama. Do analyze the oil at 2000 miles if the IMS hasn't been done. You might have done that with the old oil. If you haven't recycled it yet, hang on to some and send it to Blackstone. Cheapest thing you can do on an M96 engine.

Great advice brothers! I did not think of having the oil analyzed. I looked for shavings and fortunately did not find any.
