Nissan OBD port help

My son bought a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder over the Holidays. He went to hook up an OBDII reader to it recently and noticed the male port is different in the vehicle. I've looked high and low and can't find a scan tool or cable/software to match.

It is 16 pin and rectangular. Not the odd wedge type shape that we usually see.

Anyone know a work around or which scan tool will work for this application?

Thanks

Maybe you need this adapter. Although this does say "14-pin" vs 16-pin.

Are you sure you've got the right plug?

Steve - we tried that exact adaptor. No dice on the female end.

Unfortunately, I'm 3 hours away and can't look at the thing. I have to rely on him and that's the photo he sent. When I was there a few weeks ago, we looked at the manual and got this location.

Actually, you are closer to him than I am... Westheimer and Sam Houston Tollway area.

Hmmm

Pretty sure that video shows the same location. I'm wondering if there is some connector over the port??? I've seen them online

May be a GPS tracker / lojack set up. Please scan this thread and see if your rectangular connector has a cable(s) that goes to the Factory OBD connector which may have been popped out of the OBD spot Masraum shows in the youtube vid.

Steve, that white plug does not look like the OP's black one. So I'd say the OP needs to find one with those hooked pieces down the centerline.

That must be a different plug.

Hi the OBD Diagnostic port is usually located to the lower right hand side just under the dashboard below the steering wheel

First year OBDII port on a Nissan.

I accessed a 2011 Toyota with the same tool used to access the Nissan.

OBDII ports should be standardized so that proprietary tools aren't an issue for the public, but I'm sure not all mfgs play by the rules. Dieselgate anyone?

That may just be the answer; he got Lojack when he bought the car. I'll have him poke around and see if the OBD port is just under the knee pad somewhere.

Thanks. Great that we can come to this forum and get answers that you can't get from anywhere else, and believe me I asked around locally.

To follow-up:

The kid came home for mother's day, so I was able to look at the car.

Whatever it is, someone pushed the OBDII port out and plugged something onto the OBD plug. Then ran that device to the underside of the dash. I suspect it's Lojack but not certain. At any rate, I unplugged the device and was able to check the code. Problem solved.

Thanks to all.
