Electronics/electricity people, need advice on laptop

2y ago we got both kids an HP laptop (never buy HP, it's absolute garbage, falling keys, dying battery, etc).

The latest "fun" is one of the laptops not taking a charge. It's not the charger -checked output and swapped it with with other laptop. I replaced the battery too, it was dead but mostly because no charge. I traced the charging port inside to the motherboard and the cable delivers same voltage as the charger (but no light). The other side of that connector on the motherboard does not - it delivers 1.5V. Clearly (insert amateur guess here) some power controller chip is fried and the thing is not worth repairing.. I had ordered a new battery which came charged, with it the laptop worked great (but still won't charge so it'll die within a few hours of use)

Got me experimenting though. What if I connected 2 wires on the battery connector (where it corrects to the mobo, there are 2 + prongs and like 5 minus) and delivered it power (with my trusty power supply I use for testing car parts stuff, customizable voltage and amperage) ?

Presumably I could recharge the battery that way - bypassing the broken power adapter/motherboard and if this worked I could extend those wires outside the laptop case and make an easy "plug" for my charger ? Bear with me, I'm not that cheap and this laptop is in the dead pile but I'm having fun with a boat anchor now.

So Q is: laptop charger was delivering 19.5V 2.31A 45W
The battery itself is rated as 11.3V 41kwh

So I assume something on the mobo that fried was supplying and dropping voltage.. I therefore set my power supply to 12V at 2.31A to mimic what the battery seems to want and the charger amperage. Am I gonna fry the house ?

Goal is simply to see if I can charge it that way and let my kid retrieve all the data easily or if this works well, have as a spare for giggles, instead of landfilling it. I guess the second HP has a pile of spare parts now ;-)

You probably don't want to charge lithium batteries that way. The charger circuit usually monitors cells and balances them.

Charge the battery in the other laptop and swap it.
