Mobile internet
 

So, with the new camper and my option to wfh some days, is there a decently affordable mobile internet? I ask because the wifi hotspot in the van is under $200 for the year for unlimited data.

Would like to be able to park somewhere, national park or something, for a few days and get some work done then sight see. Won't need it for the winter but if a yearly plan is decently discounted I would go with that. So far I see $90 per month for mobile internet or $50 per month for a tablet then add on for hot spot. I will just add a hot spot to our plan for that, but like the idea of a better antenna.

The biggest issue is a lot of national parks and forests won't let providers put up cell towers within many of their boundaries but its not impossible to find service in them

$200 for a year honestly a great deal... I'd hold onto it while you can. T-mobile was doing $50 a month for "Home Internet" and a few folks learned they could just plug the router into their van and it would work pretty much wherever you have service but i hear they're looking to crack down on that.

Personally I ended up buying a "Cudy LTE" router for like $100 and configuring it for a phone SIM and that's how I work on the road

I have Starlink and the service is amazing. I tried everything (sats/hotspots/others) and nothing comes close.

They have a "Roaming" system I am also looking at for the house in SC: The system isn't cheap to purchase but I can "pause" at anytime. Set up is so easy I could do it.

Might not be what you are looking for but it has been a complete game changer for me: I went from Amish Internet to the real world. The app is also fantastic in terms of coverage.

I've got T-mobile Home Internet and it works really well for what I need. It would not surprise me for TM to crack down on folks using it to roam.

I haven't had it, but I am familiar with satellite as a network connection. Starlink via their mobile service is probably the best way to go, but it's not going to be $200 per year.

starlink just released a new V4 dish for portability.

I figured I wouldn't be able to match the van. I am sure because the van is always a temporary thing they heavily discount it.

I didn't want to pay $90 per month either though.

Matt, of the 40ish national parks we have been to, there has been OK service near the entrance but, as you say, hiking or driving on some of the interior is spotty at best. If we camped there, we might have to go SpaceX.

Starlink sounds like it might be the best and I don't mind buying equipment, but it is on the really pricey side. About triple what we pay for home internet for less speed.

Will have to think about that. A laptop with a data plan would be less overall, but not as good.
