Nice Factory Look Integrated Dash Cam
DISCLAIMER: I have no affiliation or financial connection to the product discussed below.
Two months ago my wife was hit in the rear drivers wheel well of her car. I was with her so I know she was not at fault. The other driver claimed we turned into him. Fortunately my insurance company sided with us so no “dings” on her driving record. I realized I need to equip my cars with dash cams. Our daily drivers are Mercedes. After some research I uncovered that Mercedes does make a dash cam but they are not retrofittable for my 2022 E450 or 2020 E350. I did, however, find a product which is extremely well priced, EASY to install, easy to use, and has great video. FitCamX makes cameras that are integrated into the rain sensor cover and looks factory. The installation of the forward facing camera took 5 minutes (no exaggeration) to install. The camera taps into the rain sensor power so no running of wires is needed. Note: If you buy the kit with the rear facing camera you will obviously need to run the camera wire the length of the car. I am so impressed with this product, I am going to start equipping all my cars with one. They make custom rain sensor covers with the dash cam for a variety of vehicles, to include all the major manufacturers. They also have a universal kit which can be used on our older 911s. They do make cameras for several Porsche vehicles. If we had the forward facing camera when the guy hit us, it would have proved we were in our lane and NOT turning like the other driver claimed. Of course with both front and rear cameras we would have had video proof he hit us. Again I have no interests in this product whatsoever, just a happy camper. I have one in my car. Replaces the factory piece behind my mirror and works well.

They have different options to power the camera. The site itself can be a bit difficult to fully navigate. Initially mine was powered with a split feed dongle for the rear view mirror. I decided later I didn't like the idea with electronics in mirrors these days, so I decided to go with the piggyback fuse panel cable. Install went well, it was not difficult to remove the cover on the A pillar. A little caution removing the cover due to the airbags, and careful routing and securing of the cable.
https://fitcamx.com/products/fuse-box-cable-kit-for-fitcamx?_pos=3&_psq=fused&_ss=e&_v=1.0 I was fortunate with my timing. When I clicked on the link for my car, the site said none were available, but would give a free final product to anyone that helped with the initial model. I sent them photos and measurements of my cover and windshield sensors under it along with electrical connector dimensions and pin outs. They sent me a 3D printed one so I could check it's fit and make sure the power connections to my harness were correct. It was a low resolution camera with no memory in the prototype, so I would do phone screenshots for them to determine the best angle for the camera in the housing. When done they sent me the 4K front and 1080P rear cameras. I haven't installed the rear one yet. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1717198003.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1717198003.jpg |
