Steve Magnante
Huge car guy who was on the Motor Trend channel and has a YouTube channel called the Junkyard Crawl.
He got encephalitis and spent almost a year in a care facility. He's having to sell all his assets to cover the costs. His followers on YouTube got him to set up a GoFundMe site. 300k raised since May 25th. Nice to know there are great car people out there. ![]() https://youtu.be/oPS7x0ZtfKs?si=o1njjCfvg4wkXXqI

I subscribe to his YouTube channel. He's been through a lot, that's for sure. He's a good guy for sure.

He was also an editor at Hot Rod Magazine and was a mainstay at the Barrett-Jackson auctions for years plus, he's written books too numerous to mention, he builds pretty decent model cars and has a pretty good sized collection of obscure and valuable kits.. He has an otherworldly capacity to learn and retain and recall all sorts of unknown or forgotten facts about an amazing variety of cars, but he likes Mopar best.
He seems to be getting better after his illness, I hope so!

Steve has been a mainstay of mine with his YouTube videos and Junkyard Crawl on MTTV since I retired several years back. The encephalitis has ruined him financially. I have missed him while he was off air. I am very glad to see him making a comeback. He has a long way to go, but I am happy he even survived. His medical bills must be massive. I cannot imagine having to liquidate all of my possessions to pay off my bills. Here is a guy that has contributed to society. I would rather see his debt forgiven than these lazy, under achieving former students college loans. Jmo

Why are this man's medical bills such that he had to sell his home?

My thought as well. I wish him well and I enjoy watching his you tube episodes.

Was at my doctors the other day for 8 minutes. Sat there while doctor looked at his computer and told me blood work results which I already knew and understood….wont renew my meds unless I do this. He charged my ins carrier $600. I had to pay $180 of that ( thanks Obama- used to cost me $15 co pay). System is broken. If the guy didn’t have insurance he is screwed….or if coverage was denied for some reason. Don’t know what assets he has but I would have recommended filing a chapter 7
Last year I was at ER and had to stay overnight. I was treated like crap and nothing meaningful was done. The bill was $15,000 for less than 24 hour stay. I had to pay $4,000 of this. Next time I will stay home

The Go Fund Me had a goal of $100,000. It's scratching at $320K now. Hopefully that's enough so that he can keep his house and cars.

My bud went in for an overnight. Hospital sent him a 32k bill. I think insurance covered 2/3’s.
I hope this guy well, I enjoy his shows and he seems like a nice guy. Unfortunately it’s true, it’s a quick road from the castle to the crap house. |

Unfortunately medical bankruptcy is all too common . Our health insurance in the US is a mess . I wish this guy the best with recovery and financial crisis avoidance .
