Funny, I have my cell phone with me most of the time, but I rarely actually make a call on it. I mainly use it to look things up on the web, play a racing game, and text. I basically use it as I would use a lap top.

I lived most of my life with no cell phone and certainly no smartphone.

I will never ever go back. I use my phone to answer and make a few calls. More emailing and texting and internet access. And Tapatalk for access to this forum. I use the calendar to run my business. I was on vacation a few years back and a client called and requested additional 40x60 prints. I said I will take care of it, and they were ready when I returned and my company made a nice profit.

Email, and the GPS and mapping is invaluable.

One of the biggest thing is a weather app. It alerts me to an approaching storm. It shows me live radar, and I know where said storm is, and what actions to take.

I go for several new generation f new phone before I upgrade. Right now, I still use my iPhone 11 Pro. I will upgrade in a few more years.

Our cells have Internet at the house, as a matter of fact, our Internet at the house (used for Netflix/streaming and my working from home) is via T-mobile Home Internet. If it wasn't for that, our only other option would be satellite (we'd be on starlink). We are in the middle of nowhere, but are lucky that we are close enough to an Interstate that we have service.

We're on Direct TV and a local internet that buys broad band from Cox and distributes it through radio transmitters. I might change to Starliink in the future. Although we're not all that remote, it's kind of frustrating to not have all these services that are avaialble to most everybody else.

I first had several Blackberries which I loved, but time goes by and they went with the time. Got assigned some Iphones as replacements and got used to them as a tool. I still have one (an Iphone 14) and use it mainly for texting with our scattered kids and family, also I use the excellent camera features for snaps, nothing great. It has many features that I don't use and likely never will. It is just part of modern life.

We cancelled our land-line about 5 years ago when the only calls we got were all robots-calls at all hours of the day and night. I said enough is enough as the telecommunications provider (AT&T) did absolutely nothing to control that problem. My wife and I both have cell phones and that works for us.

I think you need a land line for 3rd part security systems?

Same here. No more land line.

One of the things I use my cell phone for is the lists. I have a list for many things, medications, and many others like instructions for fixing the master bathroom shower faucet. About every 8 years is starts dripping, and I have to replace the cartridge.

I think of my smart phone as my second brain.

...actually the cellphone has come in handy a few times. Such as the other day at the dump shop someone had handed n a Marantz PM7200 stereo amp. So I googled reviews and bought it for $20. It goes well with my Mission speakers from the dump shop but I had to pay $25 for them. It's not easy being Scottish.

^^^ that's what I do buying scotch.

I'd love to ditch my phone more but it has become my lifeline. I'm a type 1 diabetic and the app on my phone, connected to the sensor in my arm, tells me my blood sugar 24/7. Just had breakfast and going on a bike ride soon.

I am not ashamed of having a cell phone.
It is one of the modern conveniences that make life well ..... convenient.
