I built a Tiki Bar - Just Showing Off My Handywork

I built a Tiki Bar. It's primitive but will work for me. I'm having a car club luau party next week and so I've been preparing. I followed someone on YouTube for my basic design but modified along the way. It turns out it was pretty easy to build once I got started. Luckily, most of my lumber was left over from a fence I previously built so not too much expense this time. I bought the thatch on Amazon.

My Finished Project. I will lightly sand and seal tonight.

Doesn't look primitive to me, it looks sturdy and well built. Cute too!

ramonesfreak 06-13-2024 10:13 AM

MMARSH 06-13-2024 12:08 PM

That looks great!

What time are drinks?

LWJ 06-13-2024 12:08 PM

That is fantastic!

Bill Douglas 06-13-2024 12:25 PM

I really like it. In fact I REALLY LIKE IT.

And not too much expense this time is a good game plan. It leaves more money for alcohol LOL

HobieMarty 06-13-2024 12:34 PM

Looks good!!! I'll take two pina coladas, one for each hand...

I've chuckled about this comment all day.

"Well of course it's primitive, it's a TIKI bar" :D

What you really need to do it go to harbor freight, get yourself a predator engine, and do a Maxwell Smart (Tiki) "Deskmobile" conversion with this sucker. Imagine cruising the neighborhood in that badboy!

Its' got the right dimensions. Build thread mandatory.

herr_oberst 06-13-2024 06:51 PM

Nice! Tiki bars are the best.

Here's another idea, I see this around town every summer. If you can't go the party, he'll bring the party to you.
Gas flame and dried grass roof. Seems like a pretty good idea.

No stories. My brother gave those to me - they were his sons from many years ago. I need to add more "swag" against the back wall but that may take time.

Scott Douglas 06-14-2024 10:02 AM

That looks really stout. Nice work!

911 Rod 06-14-2024 12:07 PM

Makes me thirsty just looking at it! Well done!

MBAtarga 06-14-2024 12:18 PM

Nicely done! You just need Baz's bikini wearing "girlfriend" standing next to it!

Superman 06-14-2024 03:51 PM

Nice job! Aesthetically, you need a surf board.

Agreed!

flatbutt 06-15-2024 07:46 AM

So, any candidates lined up for a bar maid? ;)

mthomas58 06-15-2024 12:22 PM

Well done Sir. Nice work!

VINMAN 06-15-2024 01:03 PM

Very nice!

Just curious, what did they bang you for the roof thatching?

A lot. They were out of stock on smaller quantity so I had to buy the 80' x 36" roll - it was $278. I had to get it because I'm having a luau party next saturday. The excess will get stored in the attic until this current roof wears out. Basically, I have a lifetime supply.

Bill Douglas 06-15-2024 11:29 PM

Congratulations on the Tiki Bar. You are half way there...

Now you need to master the art making of a pina colada.

Actually not that bad. Last one I built a couple years ago I was paying $40 for a 3'x3' panel.

.

I'll take a classic margarita.. Casamigos Anejo, Combier, Lime, and a touch of Kaffir lime simple syrup.

It sounds like you have enough to make a grass skirt for yourself. Us coconuts here in the south pacific wear them all the time. Handy helpful hint - wear something under it in case the girls drink too many pina coladas and start topless dancing around the pool.

WPOZZZ 06-16-2024 11:53 PM

I think Baz has enough found items to make and fully outfit one the size found in Roadhouse.
