Fuel Injectors..... Cummins Edition
I ran some bad fuel through my 2018 Ram 2500 with the 6.7l Cummins and have 10-20 seconds of white smoke on cold starts. I assume it's a leaking injector that is bleeding down into the cylinder on shut down... Being a diesel, this can cause engine damage by swelling the pistons. Local shops are recommending replacing all 6 injectors with new feed tubes. Pricing has been less than honest.
Searching the ole Cummins forums have been a mixed bag of advice with most of it on par with what one would expect from a rabid raccoon (replace fuel filters, run injector cleaner, just replace all 6 injectors and CP3). However, the underlining advice was to replace the injectors with a set from Big Bang Injectors out of Austria due to their high precision of balancing a set (0.01% iirc) and not to mess with the valve lash when removing the rockers. Shop time is only 6.6 hrs and parts are not unreasonable... As in, the set of injectors cost the same as a quote for the replacement on a single injector at a local shop. Does anyone have any general advise? I'll probably do the work at the local afb auto hobby shop. ![]() |
