Scams on Pelican
How do people buy parts on here without being scammed. Someone contacted me about some rims the other day. Come to find out, a known scammer. Another person just contacted me about other rims. No idea who one can trust. Any suggestions? This all has me freaked out.

I bet, if you stopped trying to get rim jobs… you would be in the clear.

I believe the secret is to deal with someone local, or with a known Pelican presence.

Look at their post count.
See if they have done business with someone else on Pelican (that is known and trusted) that give them a good report.

It had to be 15 or 20 years ago, but I listed here and sold a set of Fuchs wheels to a guy in California. He paid half the price and the remainder when he received them in good condition. I was naïve and trusting back then.

Damn man. I don’t get the mentality of scamming and cheating people. I just don’t. I was raised that you don’t do to others what you wouldn’t want done to yourself. How do people live with themselves, stealing from and scamming their fellow human beings?

Sorry 450…I should’ve noted, that the guy did pay me the balance on the wheels. that said, I wouldn’t do It nowadays.

Yeah, I posted a WTB the other day and almost immediately I got an email from some clown with extremely poor grammar who said he had my part and showed a picture of a parts bag with a number. That number did not show what I was looking for. I posted a picture of the part I was seeking BTW. He then sent me a picture of a spark plug wire set for a 6 plug engine- mine is dual plugged. I sent him the picture of the bracket I wanted and he sent me a picture of some custom aluminum laser etched POS. I told him to forget. His sentences and grammar were horrible. Typical scammer looking to make $$.

My impression is that Porsche’s have always attracted scammers. Not sure why? The status? It seems to simply go with the territory. Unfortunately.

You probably mean "wheels."
Scammers are everywhere, it seems.

These days, scammers are ubiquitous because of the Internet. It's easier when you can be anywhere and scam others globally, and the odds of getting caught and/or punished are nearly nil.
