WAS having a Panic Attack - Post Party Pics (at end)

I'm exhausted but moving full speed ahead in preparation for my car club Luau Party this Saturday. Of course, my to do list is way longer than it has to be and not everything will get done - but I have performed a small miracle over the past couple of months (mostly home improvement projects).

I'm not actually panicking but definitely having stressful nightmares of something going wrong. I've had many big parties in the past so I shouldn't be too worried but this is always the case - I'm just venting here.

I volunteered to host our summer party and I currently have 86 RSVPs. It's being catered by the Polynesian Club and entertainment as well with a 45-minute hula girl show (complete with fire dancing, etc..).

We've always had a summer party, but it's been at our president's house which is a big mansion. However, he moved, and we needed a new venue. I volunteered but my house is much smaller.

I woke up in the middle of the night last night and had dreamed that it was Saturday and I had overslept. My driveway is behind my house is a total construction zone and is getting cleaned up before the party - this is where the caterers are setting up. The caterers showed up and I was running out in my robe moving table saws, tools, etc.. and then people started showing up early and I had not picked up tables & chairs. This was my panic attack - I think. Just venting so I can relax. :(

Perfectly understandable; I am sure it will go off without a hitch and everyone will have a great time. Relax and enjoy.

Unless I get an invite...Ban-a-Rama cool:

We had a number of large functions at the farm years ago and I always felt like you do now.

Sounds like you all will have a great time, just put some pants on when the caterers get there:D

When hosting parties I tend to err on the side of caution and buy WAY more alcohol than is actually needed. Good luck and have a good time yourself.

My younger sister has a history of panic attacks. She is going in for heart ablation in a couple weeks. They linked the attacks to an irregular heartbeat.

I always thought panic attacks were just anxiety...until she described hers to me.

Guaranteed we have enough alcohol

Bill Douglas 06-19-2024 02:55 PM

be sure to post pics, sounds like a great party!

I'd be having a panic attack thinking about it too! Imagine all the old geezers in Hawaiian shirts, jeans shorts, white mid calf socks and sneakers.

Did anybody else read the subject title as… I think I'm having a Panic Attack - Pre PANTY Jitters? 😂

Yes, panic attacks and anxiety are two different things, to me. I got my first panic attack at 18, and then they became a constant in my life several years later. Now, it’s better living through chemistry, to control it. I have a mitral valve prolapse which sounds similar to heart ablation.

It's a party on the patio. It sounds like it'll be a great time.

Similar to picturing your audience in their underwear before a big speech, you could do a party bingo sheet.

Example:

Hawaiian shirt 1 point
Jorts 1 point
Sandals with socks 5 points
Black socks 10 points
Corvette guy with gold chain 25 points

You will be so busy laughing that the anxiety will be forgotten.

Enjoy!

I’m totally going to be the geezer in the Hawaiian shirt, chinos and sandals with black socks, I may or may not have a camera around my neck also
Rocking the extreme tourist look

That's the strict dress code we have around were I live.

A few of the young guys have no idea about sophistication and style and wear something else. But if they have no class that's their business.

That's the theory I'm going with - started tonight as a matter of fact.
I have to get up and put a brisket in the smoker at 4:00 AM. Then make 5 pounds of Patrick's potato salad and 5 pounds of German potato salad, and some coleslaw.
At some point the success of the partly has to be on the participants, not only the host. I expect the brisket and salads will be served and I will be well toasted and in the pool by 1:00 PM. After that it's all up to them.
PPOT regulars are all invited of course. Just have a good time. That's all I ask.

Bill Douglas 06-21-2024 06:43 PM

Sounds good to me!!!!

Steve Carlton 06-21-2024 06:44 PM

So if anybody asks you what you're doing tomorrow night, just say "I'm having a Polynesian party for 100-200 of my closest friends. What are you doing?"

Here's your average evening at my place.

Haha, not really. In fact not even close.

It's a beach bar in Rarotonga.

Just play this song through your head and it will calm you right down.

It will be the social event of the season!

"Let's all get normal at the LOOOOOOOO-wow"

love that song, and now it's going to be in my head for a while!
