"Hot Ones" on YT - celeb interview while eating HOT wings

I know that there have been a few threads that mentioned Hot Ones over the years.

I usually don't know anything about celebrities. I don't watch many celebrity interviews. But I have to say, this show is interesting and entertaining. I think fact that they are eating and the hot (REALLY HOT) sauces at the end especially, make it a bit different because I feel like the interviews end up revealing a bit more of the person. It's interesting to see the personalities of the celebs. Of course, all celebs are just real people like the rest of us, but what we see of them is usually a character, so it's interesting to see behind the mask a bit. Some seem down to earth, some seem intelligent, some seem nice, maybe not the brightest, and it's interesting when some try to hold it together, but then the veneer cracks up around #7, especially if they are using "Da Bomb".

I'm dying to try some of the sauces, but I don't keep a lot of hot sauce around the house (although I do like spicy food). I'd like to buy one of the kits available online, but I really don't see myself ever doing anything with the last 3 sauces other than probably a one time try.

I think Shawn has tried several of them.

You can buy the kits ($120 for 10 sauces), and they have kits from various seasons. You can also buy partial kits.

It's crazy, they've done 297 regular shows and some specials. They started out with what I think would be considered "minor celebrities" at best, but these days, they are getting A-list folks.

Matt Damon
Melissa McCarthy
Cate Blanchett
Zoe Saldana
Kevin Bacon
Russel Brand
Priyanka Chopra
Matthew MacConnaughey
Jessica Alba
etc....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hot_Ones_episodes

Watching the reactions of some of the folks is entertaining. They've had folks that said "I eat and love spicy food" and other folks that said "I don't really eat spicy food". Either way, they always get a pretty big reaction up by #7 or definitely by #8, especially if it's "Da Bomb". The variety of reactions is pretty interesting and entertaining.

I don't think I've ever seen Aubrey Plaza in anything other than clips on YT. She seems a little odd.

I must have chosen the title poorly. I feel like a hot sauce thread normally would have had more staying power. I guess the subject doesn't say "hot sauce".

Padma Lakshmi, lovely woman eating hot sauces.

Gotta love Gal
YT shows that this video has been out 1 hour and it's already got 12,000 thumbs up, which is not necessarily hits. Crazy.

watch hot ones every now and then.

Aubry Plaza is a true wierdo, and its delightful.

Parks and Recreation is on my shortlist of top series over the years, maybe close to seinfield in character development.

Every video or clip that I've ever seen of her has been about the same. I suspect she'd nutty/quirky and possibly fun.

I've seen a few. A couple of my favorites had Anna Kendrick and Mila Kunis, (neither of whom I'd given any thought to previously) both of them surprised me as being sharp, quick, funny, and both with a pretty good tolerance for spicy wings. (I'd be crying like a baby by the 4th or 5th sample.)

I was just in Target, and they had a Hot Ones hot sauce pack with two sauces and a spice rub. Not sure if they are the same sauces they use on the show or what.

Yep, Mila Kunis seems like a sharp young lady. I haven't (but will) watch the Anna Kendrick video.

Hot Ones started making their own hot sauces after they'd been around a bit, and they do use some of their own sauces on the show. They do also use other sauces. My guess is that what you saw was probably a kit for a particular season of their show, but maybe not.

I just now saw this thread .... didn't know it was about hot sauces !

I know better than to do that .... up the scale, then off the scale schit too .....

They call me "wussy" ... and I'm OK with that .

I have a buddy that makes his own of varying heat zones, has for years, and his heat tolerance is way past mine.....

Years ago, my girl and I were at his place when another friend brought over a container of wings with a big red XXX on the lid.... the place he got "em from made ya sign a "waiver" .

My hot sauce buddy took one bite and recoiled.... danger... I knew better.

My girl wanted to try one.... having seen Dale's reaction, and knowing his extremely high heat zone, I warned her.... you really don't wanna do that...

She paid dearly for about 30 minutes....

Much laughter ensued

I like spicy food, but I've got a limit of what I want to eat. I want to continue to taste the food. At some point it's too hot to taste anything. I have heard that:

1 Genetics is a factor in how much spice/heat you can handle
2 You can train yourself to handle more and more. (Basically just eat lots of spicy food).

Years ago, I worked with a guy that always ordered "the spiciest wings you've got" whenever we went out for lunch of something. The thing is back then, most places didn't get that hot. He was never tested. One day we were at a Chinese place, and I said, "hey, you love spicy stuff. You should have some of that Chinese spicy mustard." He and I both learned something that day. He was completely unaware of the kind of spicy that you get from mustard or horseradish, the kind that feels like you're breathing gas that's frying your nose hairs. He didn't enjoy that kind of spicy.
I was aware of the difference between horseradish spicy (dad liked horseradish and spicy mustard) and capsaicin spicy (dad also liked "hot pepper" spicy). I never realized that there were folks that might like one but not the other.

Many years later, at a later job, we used to go to Buffalo Wild Wings. I'd get one of the hotter sauces, but not the 2 at the top of the list (wild and blazin', I think). I tried the wild, it was pretty hot, but I didn't like the flavor. My buddies usually got the wild, and had tried the blazin' but it was too hot for them. We got a new guy, and we all went out to lunch.

The new guy said "what's the hottest they've got?"

We all answered "blazin'" while arching one eyebrow at each other.

When the new guy got his wings, I think he only ate 2 or 3 and then quit.
Apparently, he was unaware that this place had a REALLY HOT hot sauce.

I like the Geico gecko eating hot wings. I didn't know until now that it was a take off on these videos which makes it especially funny.

This one is entertaining. Skip to the 14:00 or so mark as that is where the best part starts!

I present to you, Heidi Klum!

Chef Ramsey episode of Hot Ones was really good.
