I don’t have a tattoo because I’m a wuss and it doesn’t make sense to me to pay anyone big bucks to inflict pain on me.

I have a perfect body, and no way to enhance it with ink.

Early in my working career I worked with many WW2 vets. The navy guys had tats more than likely and were big smudges. My son was somewhat of a teenage rock star. All his mates had tats. Luckily he hated needles😵*💫

Yup, plus It just wouldn’t bring me as much joy as other things I could buy for the same amount of money.

I also just don’t like sitting still while someone does something to me- even getting a haircut seems to take too much time.

In 2010 five of us did a 10 day motorcycle trip through several states ending up in Vegas. Fantastic trip, so much so that one guy had the date put on his arm. After 15 years I wonder if he regrets it? I won't ask

I have seen one tattoo in my life that was unique and truly beautiful, two if you count the Hummingbird.

The rest, IMHO, are a riot of ink and passion I find oddly endearing but not for me.

I have several (13, I believe) tats, most have (or had) significant meaning to me. One does not; it's just "cool" (or was when I was young). Only 2 are ever visible at work on the occasion that I wear short sleeves.

Most of my kids (adults) have 1 or more tattoos. I gave them all the same advice..."Your body, your canvas AFTER you turn 18 and I highly recommend you don't do anything above the collar or below the wrist."

To whomever said the nonsense about them just turning into smudges after a few years...maybe 100 years ago. My oldest tattoo is...about 30 years old now, got it when I was in Australia. It has faded slightly but still looks just as clear as the day I got it.

Agree. Mine is 26 years old and looks only slightly lighter (it's all black) than the day I got it.

Tattoos are personal. People get them for different reasons. Mine is on my shoulder but probably 95% of the people who know me don't even know I have one.

The trillion-dollar woman's fashion industry is fueled by their innate desire to change their 'look' fairly often, and/or whenever the fashion gurus proclaim that a certain 'look' is now either 'in' or 'out'.

Now that tattoos have gone mainstream, and with women going in for full sleeves and other very visible adornments, I think it's curious that their need to follow the herd and permanently alter their appearance has eclipsed their desire to develop a unique fashion sense for themselves which can be tailored to suit current trends.

Yes, I know that many women strive to look fashionable by going for the latest clothing or hairstyle, but at least these can be easily changed whenever the newest trend hits the streets. Once someone chooses to get tattooed, changing that look is no longer an option.

And after seeing the designs that some women have chosen to display on themselves, it seems like they might've failed to consider the fact that tattoos are permanent...as in remaining there for the rest of your life.

Are there countries that are more likely to have tattooed folks? Recently, I was looking at a news website in Australia, and seemed like everybody has tattoos.

I started this thread over a year ago and still no tats for me and the wife.
If you have a Ferrari (your body) you don't take a metal engraver to it. It doesn't rub out. If you must, you put a bumper sticker on it (blue hair, nose rings, etc.) then when it no longer has any importance, you remove it.
Does that make sense?

Another curious thing about tattoos is how quickly the look has spread to almost every corner of the civilized world.

I was recently watching a travel/foodie show on TV about Iceland, and even in that remote corner of the world, there was a chef being interviewed who was covered with tattoos. For some reason, the trend seems to be especially popular world-wide with people in the restaurant business.

No Ragrets is all I see when I see someone with a tattoo. Also, I don't put bumper stickers on my Porsche.

Soon to be 61 in a couple weeks here. I have seven ( some are part of a semi sleeve). I have two more in the works that are being drawn up, that I plan on getting.

My first was when i was 19. Lightened up a little but still very identifiable. The inks that they have been using the past 25 or so years have vastly improved. Very little fading anymore.
