Tattoos are personal. People get them for different reasons. Mine is on my shoulder but probably 95% of the people who know me don't even know I have one.

Soon to be 61 in a couple weeks here. I have seven ( some are part of a semi sleeve). I have two more in the works that are being drawn up, that I plan on getting.
My first was when i was 19. Lightened up a little but still very identifiable. The inks that they have been using the past 25 or so years have vastly improved. Very little fading anymore.
