I am restoring a 77 Ford Bronco now. So far I have only driven it around the yard, never onthe road.
How would you rate the enjoyability of it as a daily driver?

I had a 73 that I loaned to my brother and never saw it again.

Very nice, I like the colors as they are similar to my 68 Dodge.

To answer LSF911, I had a 73 Blazer (not Bronco, know!) as a daily back in the late 80's. I really loved it. Slow. 10.0 mpg, had a carb and all the badness of 1973 engineering. I would have another. It was a joy.

One of the characters in Shrinking (on Apple TV) drives a powder blue Bronco. Not much of a reason to see the show, but the show is terrific.

That powder blue Bronco has been in quite a few series and even a few movies.

I believe Jason Segel personally owns one that looks almost identical. Supposedly, this is it, spotted in Pasadena:
![]() I couldn't find the car's movie/TV history, but I found this: https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/cars/article/jason-segel-ford-bronco-shrinking

I owned one many years ago and my best friend had one for years back in the late '80s. They are one of the coolest looking vehicles ever and they drive like absolute schit.

A few weeks I saw an even more rare beast: an International Scout, with the windshield folded down.

I almost bought a convertible Scout last summer. Someone had welded a hardtop on and looked like getting it off the windshield frame cleanly wasn't going to end well. Just because you can by a cheap MIG at Harbor Freight doesn't make you the Flashdance girl.

@LWJ - thanks for your input. I would imagine it will be fun to drive even if not great.
@Speeder - this is what I have heard in the past. @Shaun - I would ask for it back... I've always wanted an early Bronco because I thought they looked cool. Hopefully I will love driving it too. Lots of baby blue Bronco's in the movies. Not sure if it's a bad thing but mine is dark green. Last edited by lsf911; 07-07-2024 at 11:35 AM.. |

1970 3spd column shift, no power steering, nor brakes on drums, the larger wheels/tires made it not great for U-turns, the later models I'm sure drive better. Scared some friends driving through San Francisco hills, after holiday shopping, in the rain. Garaged rust free, under dash AC with the Sport package (chrome), low back buckets including rear seat, brown vinyl houndstooth door rear side panels, hardtop headliner with trim. My opinion fun and cheap to maintain, but probably not for folks looking for comfort, safety, mpg.

Lou, I'm pretty sure he sold it/gave it to someone for drugs.
Mine had all season tires when I got it, it didn't suck to drive at all but then I was in early 20s with a 240Z and a MK1 Scirocco so it was fun in the sense it was bare bones and completely different than my other cars. Mud tires and lifted would make it suck to drive. He's been a good guy for years now. If they hadn't skyrocketed in price I'd ask him to get me another.

In the late 70s my hs parking lot had a lot of 4WDs. Several CJ5s (I had a '78 Renegade w/ a V8 ...voided the warranty with headers & side pipes), Scouts, Landcruiser, Blazers, and my bud's Bronco (a '74 as I recall)...
I'd love to have any of them now ... primitive as they all were. The Bronco got NO RESPECT I tells ya ![]() We wuz kidz ![]() |

Back around 2000, I bought my 16 year old son a 68 or 69. It had a 289 and three on the column. We painted it bright red and put in a floor shifter.
Didnt ride good, and was very basic. He had it a year or two and sold it and got him a pickup truck. I think I sold it for $5,000 or so. It was a good toy, but not a good daily driver.
