No power going on the 4th day...Center Point(lees) Energy has really let H-Town down. The Gov is in S Korea locking in a deal for them to build a steel plant here - guess he is pissed at Nucor? Then 'Loot" Gov Paxton declares a bunch of counties disasters but somehow misses Harris county (Houston)! Is it because its a blue city? Hmmmm A page from Christies book... and T Cruz is in Cali on vacation. The mayor has been moot...serious leadership vacuum.

A couple of years ago we were 11 days without power . Had two generators going like gangbusters. Getting gas was an issue too. No power no gas pumps. I wish you well and hope the juice comes back on soon!

Longest I ever went out was 7 days due to an ice storm. Got a hotel room at a local casino and made the best of it.

Don’t think anyone planned for Berle to hit Houston so hard. Weather people hinted at it, but didn’t push nearly as hard as with previous storms. I don’t think anyone posted here about it prior to this.

Curious to see why CP wasn’t better prepared. Still have to go through a bunch of flashing red lights. Sad how few know the rules.

Hope all of you affected got power back. I could use a tree service recommendation, if anyone has a good one. I have a pecan tree leaning over my garage…

i am in webster tx this week for work. i hardly see any damage. why are there so many power issues. i don't even see the typical army of power company trucks converging.

granted i know nothing about the power grid but there pockets of area with no power surrounded by power

Fingers crossed for your family. I've got a buddy that lives up there (can't remember Cut N Shoot or Cold Spring), that didn't lose power, but has a generator that runs on propane.
Yep, I don't think anyone was expecting the direct hit from the dirty side of the storm or expecting a Cat-1 to have that big an impact.
The primary impacts that I've heard the most about are tree damage and power outage. Our kids are in Friendswood, and were without power for ~16 hours. But there are still plenty of folks with no power (and that sucks in July) and sucks for food, and sucks for what it does to the gas situation.
I had heard that 10500 folks were coming to the area to help restore power to 2 million. I don't know how many ended up showing up, but I'm sure some have.

Everyone that I've spoken to has had trees/limbs come down all around them. I'm guessing that's the main source of the power outages. I assume wind may have also affected some wires and power poles.

Our kids are down in that area and were only without power for ~16 hours, but they still know other folks in the area that are still without power.

I've heard and seen lots of complains and memes about Centerpoint.

I'm curious, what haven't they done or have they done wrong? How could they have prevented power outages or repaired them faster?

I'm really asking, because I don't get how (other than keeping trees trimmed farther away from power lines) they could prevent mother nature from breaking stuff or how they could get stuff fixed faster with a limited employee base.

A few issues:
1) They have all sorts of excuses why they don't upgrade a failing grid.
2) THEY DIDN'T MOBILIZE ANYONE TILL 2 DAYS AFTER THE STORM HIT.
3) They do not provide any information as the when one can expect power to come on.

People can deal with data provide it you give it to them. No decent communication. Their web site is a joke. The map they show doesn't make any sense. If you look, the places that are 'under assessment
are the 5th Ward and parts of the 3rd Ward which are very poor parts of Houston. Downtime has juice. Some of Midtown.

Had T-storms yesterday and today. The end of days are near...

People are using food apps to see which restaurants have power lol.

Yeah, #2 is huge. I had a buddy (in Magnolia) just get power back last night. A work colleague was traveling yesterday and said it seemed odd where there were pockets where there was still no power, but lots of other places near those with power.

We go power on Wednesday. Yay!
The storms that came through thursday? Yeah, lighting strike, power down. It was a fuse that served 12 HOUSES. No damage, the fuse blew with the strike, it's a 5 minute fix.

Centerpoint only has fully automated reporting now, so I report. BUT...I'm sure that the AI that reads the reports said "oh, we fixed that block already, this must be a spurious report" and ignored it.

Power was restored tonight. About 60 hours after the strike, in a neighborhood where the global power had already been restored.

There are regulations requiring utilities to report how much they spend on maintenance per capita. Centerpoint is pretty low on that list. Drive my commute and you’d know why we’re having issues. Trees haven’t been maintained. And a late response. Still ahead of the Ike response though, supposedly…. Michael Berry did a pretty good discussion of it a couple days ago. He has a podcast…

I’m in a really good neighborhood, apparently. We rarely lose power. If we do, it’s not for long. Couple hours here and there. Maybe 24 for Ike. 6 or so for Berle. Not even worth buying a generator (ducks to avoid swings from those without..).

And, supposedly, Whataburger has a better power tracker than Centerpoint (went down a couple days ago).

I was without power for exactly 3-days. The storm that came through on Thursday was another doozie, power flickered for a while but thankfully we did not lose it again, but I know it hampered CP crews restoration work on the million plus that was still without.

Between the regular flooding, losing power and the hurricanes living in Houston is taxing.

It's been hot & humid here ... going to be 97-98 the next couple of days.. index 105.

And this ain't Houston... be safe guys ... it might test the grids again.... but y'all know that.... good luck!
