Ineos Grenadier SUV

I've been seeing these around town for several months now, finally got around to do some research on it and now I think it would be a really cool SUV to have.

Short story is a British billionaire didn't like the new Defender so he built a new retro version.

Here's Doug's review:

David - I worked for Ineos in 2016-2017 in Chocolate Bayou, in their Plastics Division.

There was a lot of talk and general excitement about this forthcoming truck. Many were skeptical that it would ever get to the production phase but here we are. I enjoyed my stint there, lots of smart people and good culture! I hope it is successful for them as the development cost was astronomical.

Really neat truck and a nice alternative to the Land / Range Rovers.

BTW every time Doug DeManure opens his mouth, I want to take a dull knife to my knee.

When you’re finished with that dull knife, please jam it in my head.

Ugh, just awful sounds and mannerism.

And how the hell can they make that? It LOOKS dang near exactly like a LR?

My understanding is LR forgot to copy right the Defender shape. Oops!

Doug grates on me too but he covers so many little details that others don't that I keep coming back to his videos.

Oh, btw...it's Trial, not Trailmaster. And folks bicker about the pronunciation of car names.

From the site...

"Named after the iconic Belstaff Trialmaster Jacket which debuted in 1948 and was designed to cope with the grueling conditions of the Scottish Six Days Trial"

I don't love Dougs presentation style, but he typically does a good job with the review.

We have a local Ineos dealer. I've seen the same 40 cars on their lot for over a month now. I've never seen one on the street. So, I suspect that nobody is buying them, or even taking them out for a test drive.

Several showed up at the local Cars & Coffee last week (it was 4x4 day). Interesting vehicle. I didn't get to look under the hoods. External and internal fit and finish looked pretty good. They were big!

Wow it's almost like if Alton Brown did car reviews.

I'm a car guy and knew nothing about them until I saw one in a parking lot in February so I suspect many potential buyers don't know they exist.

I think back to when I worked at a Ducati dealer in 1990. We had a 900SS sitting on the showroom for months before a magazine article came out saying how great they were. Then we sold everyone we had with in a couple weeks.

Now that I've strayed off topic: My boss told me to service that 900SS so it was ready to ride (it had zero miles) and ride it to the motorcycle race at Oak Hill that weekend. Saturday afternoon at the track, my brother who was good friends with the shop owner asked to ride it so I handed him the key. After 30 minutes or so I got worried, jumped in his truck and went looking for him on the little East Texas roads around the track. Soon I saw a bright red object way up the highway. It was getting large quickly and soon passed me coming the other way at what had to be the bike's top speed! Later I asked him about doing that on a bike with only 150 miles and he replied, "it's broken in now"

Saw one at the Honda dealer last week.

Not. A. Pretty. Car.

Underpowered. Overpriced. Won’t tow. I’m sure it’s going to be a winner…

When you have 8500 it is…
My Jeep will tow that - and more - with ease.

Edit: Every 1500 I’ve owned will too. Even the Ram - which towed like crap, but still towed.

I was visiting friends in Austin last weekend and brought up the Grenadier. None of my friends had heard of it. The next day, one friend had sought one out, looked it over and told me he was going to buy one. So I’m still of the opinion they’ll sell well once word gets out assuming they’re reliable.

It's cool, but too expensive and solid axle on the fronts make it drive poorly, I'd rather have a defender Trek edition
