They were playing a clip of him saying he originally got paid $2,000 for 2.5 hours of work doing Darth Vader's voice.

From Gabriel's Fire. One of my favorite scenes -- from any actor. Just released from prison, experiencing freedom and joy via hot dog cart:

RIP

I find it interesting that very early in life he was traumatized to the point he stuttered and became mute . A school teacher worked with him and wow what a fantastic result . Just an amazing career. RiP to one of the great ones .

Got him reading his own poetry to the class. Without stuttering.

Stuttering is interesting.

Speech and language are, of course, intimately associated. However, speech requires the use of parts of the brain that are not required for language. Language, being a passive phenomenon and speech, being an active phenomenon, must be connected somehow. In stutterers, that connection is disrupted for whatever reason; trauma, neurological dysfunction, physical aberrations, psychogenic factors, etc.

Many stutterers can sing flawlessly, recite poetry effortlessly and, of course, read from a script.

In addition, persons unable to, or have severe difficulty with speech, i.e., stutterers, must overcome emotional stigmata that is probably very stressful for persons, especially for those endowed with above average verbal IQ.

So, it’s complicated. As such, simplification is required for stutterers to perform. Speech by virtue of poetry, recitation and script simplifies the whole process, probably because one is not required to generate language to perform.

Frequently, when a stutterer discovers he can actually produce unaffected speech, as with many learned skills, experiences elation. That elation propels the person to actively make the separation between speech and language. That process becomes innate.

Problem solved (with luck and perseverance).
