A simple (but fun) youtube story.
I'll share a simple, but fun (for me) story which made my weekend.
When I was a kid, about 1974ish, Claude Akins was big wheels moving on his tv show "Moving On" In one episode, he was to drive through my hometown in Richmond, Va. I spent the whole night (as a four year old) looking out the window waiting for his truck to arrive. It was pouring rain. He never drove by. Oh well. Fast forward to 2024 and youtube. I've ditched TV. Too complex. I watch YT instead. My youtube newsfeed contains biking adventures where people ride extraordinary places. Riding across Tibet, Africa, Europe, America. I'm fortunate to live on the transcontinental bicycle trail. Occasionally, someone will upload a series where they ride across the country, but usually, by the time I see it (In Va.)- they are dipping their tires in the pacific ocean. Not last night. The algorythym suggested some dude riding east on a recumbent who was very close to me. I messaged him, and after 30 something days and thousands of miles, he was camping in a church not 5 minutes away. I went down and we hung out and talked about his adventure. Tomorrow he will hit Jamestown Va., and fly back west. Cool guy, and unlike Claude Akins and" moving on", YT is real and accessible. We hung out for a bit and I got to sit on his recumbent, although I didn't want to wreck it 2 days before his journey's end... So here... a simple story, and some good scenes a day before he gets up to my place. He mentions Vesuvius, where my dad died, and the airplane noseplunged into the woods a year or two ago. He said where I am is some of the most stunning scenery he's seen in his entire ride. I believe him. ) This is where I live. I am proud. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_5JQNQEv0Gs?si=CImVjHIosDC1-6Fu&start=46" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
My son lives in Blacksburg and I love it there.
