I remember he posted some pictures of renovations going on there but he did that after he moved.

I remember them too, vaguely the back yard and what seems like some serious terracing going on with some pics of other houses in the neighborhood. I briefly went back to try to find them, but couldn't. Oh well.

Going back through some of the older tabs threads reminded me of a bunch of others who have come and gone for various reasons.

I'm starting to fear the worst. IMHO it isn't like Tabs to sit back and not respond to a thread such as this.

Every time I see there's a new post, I hope it's from Tabs. When I see it's not, I then hope it's not someone reporting his demise.

I "stepped away" from this place and all others for over a year many moons ago....

Didn't even get a thread :D

Methinks, and I hope that Tabby is just teasing us with his hiatus ....

A '69 911S. Quickly! Tell us what it's worth!

Hope Tabs is ok.
Another Pelican Ron Dent was mia for the last year or so. No one here knew anything.
Last August I was at Laguna Seca during Reunion and was over in the SCCA corner worker area outside T11.
One guy walking around so I asked him about Ron Dent. His face dropped and he told me the sad news that Ron had suffered from cancer and had recently passed away.
Ron was a great guy, SCCA starter and volunteer. I met him here on the OT board. RIP Ron.

seems like we need a way for the forum to be notified and say their goodbyes as we lose members. guess it could be problematic for a number of reasons but closure is a good thing.

I agree...but I got flamed heavily when I suggested we pool a few bucks, hire a Vegas PI to find out for us.

I wish there was: This place is aging faster than a Fruit Cake after Christmas...

berettafan 10-13-2023 12:50 PM

paul i don't mean to suggest a PI, that could maybe be perceived as invasive. I guess i don't know what would work but it feels like i've been here so long i'd appreciate some closure when we lose someone. just a chance to say 'hey that guy was fun to read and debate' or 'i loved it when he posted pics from his project' or something like that.

i dunno i'm just getting old i guess. this place is so therapeutic for me. helps me find my flaws in logic and personality. helps me learn what generally educated people are thinking on various topics. just all around more important than it probably should be for an adult.

That's because it was a stupid idea. If you didn't know the guy well enough to pick up the phone and give him a call, it's really none of your business.

I have a close friend in Vegas who is a criminal defense lawyer. He has an investigator in his office who is a retired LV Metro detective. He could find out what if anything happened to Tabs in about 60 seconds and it wouldn't cost me a dime. Guess what? I'm not going to ask him to. Some people have a hard time separating real life from the internet. You didn't know him.

creaturecat 10-14-2023 11:01 AM

do ask him. a simple yes or no would suffice.
real life and internet life do intersect.
looking forward to having this resolved.

I'll say this, Tabs didn't seem like the kind of guy that would read or post from a phone. If he landed in the hospital he likely wouldn't communicate. Worse, he might not be able to.

So here's the thing: if you all think Tabs' needs and concerns should be tended to and he is still with us, then it would be worth knowing. I wouldn't call that being invasive as much as I would call it being concerned with a reason. Then again, what can anyone here do for him regardless of the circumstances.

It's a fine line and it seems to have everything to do with motive. I'm sure he had decent health insurance so one might call a couple of the better hospitals in LV and ask for his room. If the answer comes back vague then you can ask about arrangements that were made. You may get nothing. And there's a good chance he was never there, so it's a hunt.

I had a friend pass away last year. The family was very private about it and there was absolutely no information available. When the name of the mortuary became known, they were very unhelpful. Death certs are not public information and have to be applied for and for good reason. Unless you can show you have a legitimate reason, you get nothing.

It would likely take an investigator to find out. Many of you seem to know his address. I can tell you that even real estate can be handled w/o triggering info on Zillow, etc. I've seen that happen.

So write a letter to the address and see what comes of it. You could even invent a benign story about a spoon. Oh, and he had a FFL. I have no idea what the renewal date was, but there's info to look at. That is public: http://www.atf.gov/about/foia/ffl-list.html

Well, if he can find the brunette in the brown dress I'd go along with that. Of course that would have to have been then, not now I'm afraid.
