^^^ Maxim?
I remember that...even had pics.:)

Bill Douglas 09-06-2023 01:47 PM

Yep, that's him.

Bragging about the high end cars he has crashed.

Steve Carlton 09-06-2023 02:16 PM

That Maxim thing was funny!

What happened to island911?

Todd is highly educated and very competent in many different arenas. Not sure what took him out of here, certainly not because he was too smart. I'm guessing his admin role here wore him out and like many of us long time members he detailed an evolution of thought on this forum on different topics. I know he deleted many of his posts related to more contentious subject matter but who actually cares. I hope his life is good and family and son are doing well. Confident they are.

Tabs, didn't he have his own website? Radio tabs or similar? I need to lookup some older posts from him. It was linked in his signature line.

Richard (motion) is a stand up dude and I do agree there were folks here who took him to task for his success and he likely grew tired of the scene.

onewhippedpuppy (Matt) just dropped off as well likely for the negative feedback for his good natured posts about cars. There was another guy who was a auto reseller, cannot remember his name, who also got chased away for his inputs which at the end of the day were helpful to others.

Some good times back then.

I sent Island a pm a couple days ago but have not heard back from him.

speeder 09-06-2023 03:40 PM

Todd had a PhD from Caltech, that’s serious horsepower under the hood. Whether that translates into common sense about everyday things is open for discussion but he was a genius. I’m fortunate to call Richard a friend IRL and he is doing better than well. :)

pwd72s 09-06-2023 04:08 PM

All this is fine, but what about Tabbydoll? Is he still on this planet?

Steve Carlton 09-06-2023 04:11 PM

Todd did a Ted Talk. He has car/motorcycle/guitar bulimia. But I can relate (too well). I spoke with him a few times recently about getting a guitar. He was selling one that was close to what I wanted and a very good deal. He sold it a day or two before I decided to pull the trigger. He's into his music mostly now, I think.

Kaizen, was his Pelican name I think.

Island may be a runner.

OWP's car exploits were the best. Lived vicariously through him.

Wasn't OWP the originator of the famous 'Slap That Cratch'? :D

This is where you go at 20,000. Some good. Some bad.

Richard, Motion, as well. If I recall correctly he left because after creating threads on his amazing adventures, a few folks would bag on him for being wealthy. Jealous MFers. Really enjoyed his travels.

I made a snarky late night comment on his beautiful dream home in the woods one late night because it wasn't exactly my personal vision. Or something. I think I was trolling for more information about place/methodology/building process/etc because the truth is only found after a challenge. That's how I was raised. Fascinating stuff done by anyone dealing with that challenge. That was quite the project. I didn't mean it as an attack and please convey my apologies if you talk with him. The reality is that myself is another nobody waking down the street in this vast earth. He shared many great trip and moto experiences over the years iirc and please give a thanks.

I have no idea what or where that place is. Some of you guys are just total post slackers!

Brain fart — who is OWP?

Anyway, the initials somehow made me think of Oddjob uno.

But if we start the MIA thing again it will go into the hundreds. People just drop out. There doesn't have to be a reason.

I noticed Tabs was posting less frequently. But generally if you called out his name he would respond. Supposedly he is around 70 and once you hit that milestone each year becomes more of a gift. The law of averages changes for no one.

Last night I watched an interview by Justin Bell on Alain de Cadenet. Alain died in 2022 at age 76 which I had not heard. He told much of his life story and gave his philosophy which, over simplified, was to enjoy as much of life as possible every day. This included a lot of 'appreciation' for the opposite sex.

The first thing I thought of as he explained getting up in the morning and getting going was WTF am I doing here?

Maybe Tabs saw that interview way before me.

pavulon 09-07-2023 09:27 AM

Is there some new-ish obituary somewhere tied to his real life name?

Knowing his full name, I checked and nothing. Also got my iphone 6 running and called his number, doesn't go through but it's a very old number. I visited Ted twice in Vegas but that was around 15 years ago so I don't think we can jump to any conclusions on that.

I'm thinking posting cool car pics of the El Camino doesn't count against you. You should be safe! :D:D
