What to do with old Panoramas?

I don't have 20 boxes but about 5-6 feet of Panorama magazines.

Was thinking dumpster. Would anyone want them?

I've tried selling them... crickets and then it ends up at such a low price point it's not worth the hassle.

I ended up giving about 15 years' worth to a local collector. He even came and picked them up.

good question, I probably have 60-70 yrs worth, with a few gaps I’m sure….from myself and my grandfather.

EDIT: now that I think about it, I think I tossed a few decades when I moved. In my Dad’s basement is probably most of 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Same problem with Excellence. I have a badly bending shelf from the weight of 99% of all issues..
In hindsight, while I enjoyed having it for reference once or twice when I bought a 7y old "new" 911 or whatever, these days I find them largely depressing (low prices, missed opportunities, bygones). Mostly, I stopped buying used 911s because they're all 100K now so yeah I don't think I'll move that collection anywhere but a recycler one day.. By the time they are worth something "historically" I'll be tree food.

Donate them to a local nursery/elementary school or day care where kids can cut them up for craft projects.

Or see if a local nursing home would want them. Maybe not usual library material, but they may be interested in free reading material.

I post them on Craigslist or some local Facebook Porsche group and someone usually picks them up. Of course, it's usually 7-10 issues of Excellence and Pano. Not years or decades.

Which brings me to a memory - when I bought my first Porsche - the '81 SC Targa. When I picked it up, the seller opened the trunk and there was an Auto Atlanta parts catalog in it. He said "Anything you need....this is where you get it."

But instead, I ended up getting some filters from Pelican. Wayne took the order over the phone. Pelican was in it's infancy back then.....

I’m just thinking about what other stacks of magazines my poor Dad still has in his basement. Pretty sure there are several years worth of some others. Might get some of these names wrong from memory, but “911 & Porsche world”? “Gmund”, “VW&Porsche”….I was a magazine hoarder!

I have from Dec '59 thru the late 80s with dupes of some of the 60s stuff and a lot of the 80s from my dad or one of his buddies. Along with Sports Car Graphic (became Car and Driver) and Car and Driver, Road & Track, and a few single issues of some British mags from the early 50s on.

I've sold more than a couple but not nearly enough over the years, maybe enough for a bottle of Woodford, $1-5 each at various car shows.

My suggestion works in the spirit of downsizing.......IF you have enough Porsches to consider thinning the herd.

A person's age also factors into things, of course.

I wonder if there's a person or agency who offers valuation info for magazine owners who want to dispose of them - and make some money at the same time.

Like the Antiques Roadshow thing...but for magazines.

OK - another memory just popped into my head.....

Back in the early 80's, the town I live in happened to be included in the world surfing pro tour. Probably because we have a consistent break here and the main judge from the USA was from here. So our contest was coming up and I happened to mention to my friend, the USA judge, I have accommodations at my house if anyone coming into town needs any. So both the Australia and South African judges stayed at my place along with the head of competition...."Fatty Al" Hunt - an Australian.

Well "Fatty Al" was a surf mag collector - and had the biggest collection of surf magazines in the world! In fact - his eBay handle was "surfmags" or something like that.

I have a pretty good collection as well including quite a few of the legendary Australian SW Magazine!

I'm the keeper...

The Panorama family collection started with my father in 1964, now stored in organized boxes in our basement. Only missing one issue from 1970. I gave that issue to friend because his dads 911 race car was on the cover. My father turns 99 August 27th and we still talk Porsche. I was happy to show him this year he was named in Panorama for being such a longtime PCA member.

It still bothers him a bit that I gave that issue away. If anyone has the February or March 1970 Panorama featuring the 24 hours of Daytona, I will buy it!! That 911 was driven by Charles Perry and with a full fuel load, got hit in the rear while on the high bank by Mark Donahue (driving the blue Sunoco Ferrari). The Porsche did 6 end over end flips yet Perry got out OK. The Ferrari was able to continue but became the duct tape special as seen in race photos. The Porsche got crushed into a cube and became a table!
