Data Mining

I am totally baffled on this one, I have 2014 CD, purchased used in another state a couple years ago. Soon after purchase, had a CEL, went to the local P-car dealer to have a look (extended diesel warranty). They were worthless , but they also advised me on a couple open campaigns on the car, I declined one (Headlight Sealing Caps). So, every year I get a snail mail recall notice that I ignore.

Well I get a text from my 24yo son, he received an email on his personal Gmail account addressed to me from the local P-Car dealer regarding the recall on the CD.

How/why did they associate me with my sons email? How did they get my sons email? He has never bought a new car, he has never been to car dealer, let alone given them his email. On the snail mail front it has "motorsafety.org" printed on the lower left, did they figure out a way to monetize the recall process?

Any ideas?

Does your son live with you? Has he ever bought anything online, using his email and your address? Probably linked that way.

I bought my step-daughter some baby shower stuff on Amazon, using my account and her shipping address. Some data miner decided she lives with me now, and I get mail for her at my house.

We also get mail for my wife's ex husband here. They've been divorced 13-14 years. Nothing bad, just catalogs from the tech college, cable tv signups. No credit card offers, I'm worried my wife would try to f him over and fill one out.

A young teenage girl got a flyer from Target advertising baby food, formula, etc. Her father went ballistic and complained to Target as to why his 15 yo daughter was getting such mail! They apologized for the oversight.

A month or so goes by and the daughter announces to her parents that she was pregnant. Seems she bought a pregnancy test at the local Target. :)

Same IP address and similar name gave a false match. Not my field - but I know people that do it for a living - and it’s scary how they can pigeonhole you.
