Classic British Mechanic - Los Angeles
Can anyone recommend a shop that would work on a Sunbeam Alpine?
Thx!

Edge, are you going to treat us to some pictures. That's one of my favourite cars.

A friend bought the car. He's not mechanically inclined, so he needs a good mechanic.

Looks particularly good in that green. And good luck with the fix.
I was going to say tell him it's basically a Humber 80 but he would say a Humber what? Zenith carb, Lucas wiring... Yep, he needs a good mechanic. Last edited by Bill Douglas; 08-18-2024 at 04:47 PM.. |

I was thinking Agent 86 pulled up in an Alpine in earlier versions of Get Smart before he arrived in a Tiger, but he did not. In checking, apparently in some scenes they used an Alpine with Tiger badging so they'd have room under the hood for the pop up machine gun under the hood. I wonder if watching Get Smart holds up well today. That video of the guest stars Baz posted was interesting. I don't think I remember seeing any of them from when I watched the show.
![]() Many years ago I found an excellent mechanic for British cars in Pleasant Hill, CA. John Bull was the name of the shop. I think it was a 1977 MGB I was flipping. Big bumpers, but it was a fun car. I always thought this gag Lucas part was hilarious: ![]()

Bond drove one!
Appears In "Dr. No" In Kingston, 007 orders a marine blue Sunbeam Alpine Series II Sports Tourer convertible to use on his assignment in Jamaica. He then drives the Alpine to Miss Taro’s house in the Blue Mountains although Dr. No’s assassins, the Three Blind Mice, are expecting him and try to run him off the cliffside road. With the two-door roadster’s agility, coupled with Bond’s superior driving skills, the assassins in their lumbering black hearse do not stand a chance. Bond spots an angledozer at work in the road ahead and takes advantage of the Alpine’s low profile to drive under the machine’s shovel-arm, which is reaching across the road. The bulkier hearse cannot execute the move and veers off the road, tumbling down the mountainside and erupting in flames. More info here: https://www.007.com/the-vehicles/sunbeam-alpine/ ![]()

Pasadena British Service. My friend use to own that shop that did general mechanic service. I bought my 930 from him. Few years later, he sold the shop to them and retired early. They have been doing very well since. I am not sure if you are willing to travel to Pasadena from the west side?
When did you get that thing? Very cool |

Edge, it's your fault. I blame you.
I can't stop looking at pic's of Sunbeam Alpines. One or two for sale around here. I hope to God a green or silver one doesn't come up for sale. |

That was interesting. Thanks.
A few of the car club guys have Tigers and race them at the classic races. But I think I like the steady old Alpines the most. Someone at Uni had one and I was so jealous. |
