Question Anyone do serious beard ? mustache care?

OK so I've been growing a beard for almost a year. I'm around this:

but going for the ZZ Top length:

The hair is not straight and smooth so I've been using conditioner and beard oil for it to be easier to comb and not be brittle.

I'm wondering if we've got anyone who has a serious beard. Is a wooden comb really that much better? Do you have a oil that works really well? Any suggestions on general care?

I thought a beard was easier than shaving but it is not. Is it grey? It will be a lot more wiry and stubborn then and unruly. I used beard butter - lasts longer than oil. I grew it for about 6 mos. Eventually went and shaved again. I shave once a week, best of both worlds.

I use this stuff:

My niece says it tickles her cheek when I hug her.

I just use shea butter. Tried the oils, just not my thing.

Braids w or w/o beads?

I get too hot with a beard, even when I lived someplace where they had winter

Go figure, there are photos of Byron without a woman, bicycle or cat in them

4 out of 5 anyway

Can't you just spill food and alcohol on it to make it look good.

My beard is white and wiry. I don't mind a bit of the wild look but want to keep from getting tangles and breakage. I've read that too much oil causes problems... not enough natural oils causes breakage... Darned if you do/darned if you don't?
Shea butter may be my next test.

No braids or beads. Just want to be a "sharp dressed man".

Has anyone found a difference in using a wood comb instead of plastic?
