Tool Guys - Tools you should get rid of...
I thought this was a pretty good, short video.

I haven't finished, but this looks like it's probably got some of the tools mentioned in the first video.

I'll never throw away a tool. Often will get something that is better but to throw a way a good functioning tool is heresy to me.

He makes good instructive videos, sometimes a bit preachy, but he's certainly a talented guy.
Lately he seems to have handed the channel over to his son, at least partially, and that's a step backwards. I'm perfectly happy with my pliers and my chalk line. I don't make my living with them, I don't care about the 'better tools'. I care that mine work. |
As Jay Leno says, "Not my problem"
I'll leave it up to my friends and family to throw away the tools they don't want from inside my garage. And house. And shed. In the meantime, I'll just keep making more space for the tools I've been bringing home. |
I gave the Porsche specialty tools away, knowing I'd never have a need. Oh, I also gave Ron Madaio (Ron in LB, may he rest in peace) my 13mm snap-on distributor wrench. Neither of the current cars has a distributor.
Others, I keep, including the channel lock pliers...despite also getting the Knipex Cobras. Hey, you never know when a tool might be what you need. |
Yep, never throw a tool away. Sure buy a better one to "replace" it but keep the old one.

I disagree. On my lawn right now, near a "FREE" sign is a box of drywall/painting tools. Three taping/mudding knives, some tape, used brushes, roller pan, rollers and roller covers. I don't see myself taping again, ever, and when I want to paint, I'll go get what I need. And some other tools. For now, I'd rather have the shelf space that stuff occupied. I'm simplifying. Peace of mind is my goal.
I do have the Knipex pump pliers which I LOVE and I did not get rid of my Channel-Locks. I may be dumb but I'm not stupid. |
I have a 3 car garage packed with auto and woodworking/contractors tools. Plus a shed..
Mrs Vinman said if anything ever happens to me, she's rolling up the doors and putting a sign out at the road saying "everything free"... . |
