Idiosyncrasies

When I was a kid my whole life revolved around a ball. Baseball, basketball and football. Losing a ball was traumatic. I didn’t have money for another ball. So now when I throw the orange chuck it ball for my dog I always try and keep an eye on where it goes. She lost one the other day on our morning hike and for two days I scoured the trail looking for it. Today I found it and I’m beginning to think I have issues. It’s a $2 ball! I can buy more. Deep rooted childhood issues I guess.

I’m the same way. Our border collie loves to chase the chuckit ball. And like you, I keep a close eye on where it lands just in case she can’t find it!

My girl is a Border Collie too! The ball seems to be their job!

I'm the same way...last night I spent over an hour searching for a 1/4" drive spinner handle with a 10mm (of course) socket attached. I'd had it & other tools on the workbench, getting ready to put them away, when Cindy came in the garage wanting some help...so, when I got back, put the other tools away, noticed it was missing. WTF?

Must have looked at it a dozen times, while searching...I'd knocked it off the bench when getting up to help Cindy, and it landed parallel, resting it's handle against the chain saw handle of the same color, me assuming I was looking at the chain saw. Hey, it's my favorite spinner handle, because it had a 1/4" square drive opening on it's end for adding more torque if needed....can be used as a 6" extension.

My theory...must be a holdover from the days of little money when I really had to care for my "stuff" because might not be able to buy another. Nice to know I'm not alone in this thinking..

I do the same kind of stuff.
If something needs to be thrown away...I'm looking at parts to scavenge off it. Which leads to various containers of used parts. I'll prob never use them...but I have been upset when I tossed parts only to need them.

I think it comes from ancestry...I'm German and Dutch. (mostly German, but the Dutch is stronger)

No pets, but I am OCD when it comes to losing something, especially tools. I will look until the cows come home, until I find it. On a few occasions I couldn’t find a tool (usually a socket), I’ll buy a new one and the old one will show up.

I think it all stems from when I was 10 years old and lost my new 69 Schwinn Stingray to a thief. I saved up my paper delivery money and bought a new one and still have it.

I won’t buy shorts without pockets.

I must have been about twelve years old and was wearing those cheap nylon gym shorts with the white piping and no pockets...

I was at a McDonalds and I either sat my wallet down on something and someone stole it or it fell into the trash, that day stuck with me my whole life.

Besides, shorts or pants without pockets is just silly/crazy. Hell, even the good "yoga pants" have pockets these days.

Consider the sort of flashy big spender that doesnt search for that $2 ball. Darn right there should be consequences.

Reminds me of a wall street ahole that didnt choose food at a fancy restaurant - he ordered one of everything and browsed all the plates.

I guess that money trickles down so the people in the chinese ball factory can afford to eat but it feels good to hold yourself accountable.

I've never had to worry about losing one ... my Lab's tail is in constant "wag mode" when the search is on... and I make throws she can't see .... deep into the woods, any direction .... GAME ON! A nose that won't quit :)

OK ... I have lost the orange ones .... they travel further than cheap tennis balls ... she doesn't care ... tennis anyone?

Thank you Moka :)
