Vehicle title service

Hey Pelicans, has anyone here used a vehicle title service? If so, can you share who and your experience.

Without going into excessively lengthy detail, I bought a Boston Whaler from New York, The boat was manufactured in 1965, pre 1972 HIN regulation. The State of New York at some point issued a HIN. New York also does not issue titles for either the year or length, so I have a transferable NY registration signed by the seller and a notarized BOS. New Jersey will not accept the Transferable registration. The state of New Jersey is requiring me to go through a process as if the boat were abandoned. This is a long-drawn-out process that will take months requiring adds in papers, registered letters, a court process and it is somewhat expensive. It seems ridiculous for a legitimate arm's length transaction that has been verified by the New Jersey State Police.

So, I thought I would look into a title service to see if I can speed things up. Any help is appreciated.

Not for boats, and the Whaler is nifty, but I always use the tile services here in Maryland...a non-somnambulist experience:D

That is all I have, Dr!

I use one here in Texas when we register new to us vehicles. Saves lots of time at county tax office and only cost me $30 per transaction. They know exactly what to do and if there is a line it is usually only one person deep.

I used one to transfer my Trike's title from NC to NJ. It took 3 months!

Exactly...and the Lady who runs the local place (https://faststoptagtitle.com/) is a steely-eyed Avenger. You need to have you stuff in order or no soup, er, title for you; which I love!

Thanks Seahawk, Yeah the Whaler is nifty, that's why I bought it. One owner all original including the Homelite four stroke that runs. I bought it in upstate NY only used in freshwater and garage kept.

In the past NJ wasn't that difficult to deal with but since Covid it has been a nightmare. That being said I have always had titles with manufacturer issued HIN's or VIN's.

It seems like the process the state wants me to go through will be three months or so as well. I'm trying to get around that wait, $300.00 court fee and the cost of all the newspaper ads, registered letters, court appearance etc.

It's comical, I have a notarized BOS from the seller. two New Jersey State Police Marine Division Troopers have spoken to the man as that is step one in filing the court documents. But the state after I go through a court hearing then wants me to send him a registered letter that I have applied for the title to see if he makes a claim. After that I can then request a title from the state.

Sorry completely off topic, forgive me . . .

How much do the boat and trailer weigh? Asking for a friend with a Cayenne who may “borrow” the boat. :D

If you ever get up to Northern NY (North of Syracuse), the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton is a great place to visit.

The original 1,000 Island Dressing is from there as well. Great stuff and quite different from the store bought stuff.

Thousand Island Dressing – Buy the ‘Original’ Salad Dressing, originated in the 1000 Islands, in Clayton, New York in the early 1900s. – Purchase the Original Thousand Island Salad Dressing

Dude, you're "boat blocking" me...:D

I was just about to swoop in and ply my magic:cool:

Wish I had advice, Dr., other than I have storage...on a farm, a water front farm with a ramp and lift.

Tell your friend a second Gen Xterra drug it back to NJ from NY with no issues so the Cayenne should be fine. :D

Well work on that waterfront storage unit but first I need to get it legal.

Interesting you say this rfuerst. I went to the New York DMV site; it seems I may be able to get a title in my name using my New Jersey Driver's license. I phoned after hours yesterday so I am going to phone shortly to verify.

I do have a buddy in New York so if this doesn't work maybe I can use his address. Thanks for the thought.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I contacted NY DMV, my NJ driver's license, the current NY transferable registration, BOS, $236.00 later and I have a three-year transferable New York registration in my name. That works for me.
