It is indeed a fascinating bit of all but forgotten history.

Never heard of it...thanks for the education.

All these YouTube "explorers" must copy each other, because I often see a different person that does an odd report like this, and then another "explorer's" pops up a little later. Hence, I prefer reports by hot women.

I am struggling to find a reason why not for any report, especially the "sammies ready"

Trust me, never happens.

To the OP...what a great memory jogger...the things I forget!

I flew with a guy in my first squadron in San Diego that was WAAYY into the mail service arrows, beacons, etc.

I didn't believe him (mid '80's folks) so on a detachment to Fallon we flew some of the arrows along Route 50 in Nevada..they are real and they are, frankly, just interesting:D

Again, thanks for the memories.

Cool. I now know someone that's seen them. I'm guessing that they are probably visible in Google maps. I've been wondering about finding (probably some web page with a list of links) the ones in Texas and FL.

Dixie's link was great and led me to this site: https://www.dreamsmithphotos.com/arrow/arrows.html

State-by-State locales.

In the mid '80's is was a little harder than dialing in a GPS coordinate:)

Oops, Paul beat me to it.

Thanks for sharing. I knew about the arrows, but not the beacons or sheds with generators inside.

Equally as interesting is PanAm conquering navigation over the Pacific Ocean. Islands like Wake, and Midway, factored heavily into this accomplishment.

My daddy, who flew in WWII, Korea, and 'Nam, would revel in the exploits of the pilots from the '30s. But to me, the logistics and technology used to support and direct the airplanes is even more fascinating.
