Is this the most stupid/useless car feature ever?

I was given a 2024 Kia for a rental car last week and every time I was at a stop light or sign, I would hear a chime.
About the tenth time it happened, I noticed there was a dashboard message that would pop-up each time.
I forget the exact wording, but it was close to this..."The car ahead of you has started moving forward"

I'm guessing it's for people that want to check their phones or whatever while waiting at a red light??
I've never seen this feature before.

Cars are getting smarter, people, not so much.

Can’t back up with the drivers door open on a truck…

HobieMarty 09-09-2024 12:38 PM

Yep, I see it all the time, but I'm a test track driver for Kia so...

I am not sure we are going in the right direction by trying to compensate for lousy drivers when what we really need is stronger driver training and licensing reviews.
I currently see drivers who scare the wee out of me and it is not terribly busy around here.

Is that the intent of the warning?...for those who don't want to pay attention, or are doing something else?

Doesn't it look at a set of parameters to determine driver attentiveness? Driving time, delays at stop lights, bumping the centerline or shoulder markings. I would imagine the settings are adjustable.

Inconsistent driving and you get the warning.

100% agree with that.

Steve, I think your SI has a similar system. If you have it it should be accessible by scrolling through the right instument panel gauge menu. Civic has four levels. Level 3 and 4 give no warning. Levels 1 or 2 start giving visible and audible warnings.

When I saw stupid and useless feature, I thought the thread was going to be about automatic transmissions!

My wife's car (2022 KIA) has that feature. It only activates when you're still sitting still after the dude in front of you has moved a certain distance...

Umm yeah, the polite chime is going to be ineffective. If it were connected to a shock collar, I'd be all for mandating them on all cars.

Hopefully that works for the people sitting at green lights looking at inst or texting while the line of cars behind them beeps their horns

Thanks...I'll check that out tomorrow...being careful to not activate it!
Did you mean the left side of the wheel? The right side has no scrolling.

Sooner or later 09-09-2024 02:06 PM

Nope, right. Then you might not have it.

stevej37 09-09-2024 02:11 PM

^^^ yeah, the only scrolling wheel is on the left side...but I'm sure there is a 'Driver Attention' choice along with about 12 other choices on the left side. I haven't explored all of them, I use the range and fuel, boost and maintenance choices the most.

varmint 09-09-2024 02:20 PM

Turn signals on bmws.

I crack myself up.

The menu on the new bike is irritating. I only care about the odometer and tach, but have to scroll through sex options to get from one to the other.

I had a Honda civic hybrid a couple weeks ago. I fought me trying to avoid an accident with that stupid lane assist. At least I was strong enough and determined to not wreck it and returned it to Avis. A very stupid feature !

Probably correct.

I don't think I can turn mine off. It has never given me a warning.

Actually, none of that type stuff ever activates.

That must of been a 2025 model...they just came out with the hybrid.
How was the power of the car? They say it's better than the SI with the turbo 1.5
