This may be weird but I’m addicted to my gym

I’d go 7x/wk if schedule permitted it. I know my body needs the rest but when I don’t go, I get Fomo. It’s not just the great workouts though, it’s the people. I’ve made friends there and we sort of check on each other when one is missing. The coaching is excellent and location is ideal. You might be able to guess what type of gym it is so I don’t need to say it. No, it’s not a swinger’s club

You can always just go for stretching, sauna, or steam room (if it has those)... that'll be your "rest" day.

Yeah, same here. I go to a boot camp class
5 or 6 mornings a week. I work from home
So it's good for me to get out.
Coaches and members are fun

No gym within a reasonable distance to me....so I ride bike every morning. (weather permitting)

I feel the same as you about when I don't go. If I miss my 16-24 miles, I just don't feel right for that day...and I'm 71 years old.

I'm thinking of giving up going to the gym.

It works out at about $150 each time I visit.

That's because I only go once every two months and pay a membership. I have a Total Gym https://totalgym.com/collections/frontpage at home and are a surf dog so I don't really need to go to the gym. I should spend the money on something else.

Try the "executive workout" on rest days. My buddy used to read the newspaper in the hot tub or sauna. No exercise. Just chilling out. I thought it hilarious but why not?

I had that with jiujitsu. I could handle 5 days a week but not 6. Loved it so much, some sweaty dude trying to choke me out but I kept getting hurt which required months off and/or surgery. Keep at it while you can.

I’ve been going to the gym 3 times a week for a long time doing physical therapy for my knees, cardio and weights.Lately, been hanging out with my niece. She played volleyball in college and was offered a track scholarship at Kansas. She ran the 400m like my sister and I in Highschool/l. I held the School record for 42 years.She’s into MMA and competed in CrossFit. No more going through the motions. It’s now 6 times/week and burning almost 400 calories in 30 minutes on the elliptical, abs, exercising with bands, weights, plus physical therapy for my knee. I’m OK Monday through Wednesday and tired as hell on Fridays.

Sometimes you need motivation.

cantdrv55, I'm right there with you!

Since retiring 2 years ago, end of this month, I've lost >30lbs and feel like i'm in my 30s again. I love training as much as possible.

I understand being addicted to the gym. Working your body feels good once you get started.

I'm not sure I was addicted, but when I had to stop running I really, really missed it. I fell into a mild depression. I still get a little misty-eyed when I hear songs from the old playlist that I played on my iPod while running.

I've been there too. Fought getting my new bionic hip for 10 years, until I could barely walk.

I have found that the elliptical, while not the same, does provide some of the running high. I love to flog 15k in the mountains, when not throwing the iron around.

The good news is with the new bionic hip, now a bit over 4 years old, started adding 1-2 days/week 5k jogs down by the ocean last fall. It puts a smile so big on my face it's funny

I feel good when I get into exercise. I've felt the "runners high" before. Over the years, I've done various types of exercise, running, weights/gym, or cycling. I love what it does for me and how I feel, but it's super easy for me to quit. I generally only exercise if I've got someone (wife, buddy, roommate) that is the one that say's "let's go". I'm rarely the one that says that. Once the wife and I get started, I'll occasionally get her started even if she's not feeling it, but 99% of the time, it's her that's prompting.
