A Rare Prime Shipping Mix-Up

First time I've had a shipping mistake from Amazon.

I ordered a pair of biking gloves on Saturday. Today they delivered a box that had my name and address along with another partial sticker for a different customer. The other name was a lady from a city about 100 miles from here.

I opened the box and it had a 2lb. bag of oat bran, a bottle of Sun Bum daily moisturizer, and a make-up compact.

I called Amazon and explained what happened and he said they would have the bike gloves to me on Tues. (tomorrow) I asked if they were going to email a return label for the package I received.

The guy said..."Just throw it away, or sell it".....

I can imagine uses for the moisturizer and make-up.....but wth do I do with oat bran?

After playing with my son's truck over the weekend, I ordered this last night about 5PM before I started watching football.
It was waiting for me on the front porch this morning when I got up at 7AM.

Even with the speed turned down till I get used to it's speed, it's a barrel of fun.

^^^ After I called, I checked my 'orders' on the Amazon site and they had added a new order for the gloves at zero cost.
I'm surprised this is the first time it's happened to me, I order a lot from Amazon.

With the number of things they handle each day it's surprising it doesn't happen more often.

I'm too far away from a dist. center to get anything that fast. Detroit is the closest and its 200 miles away.

They built a big ol' complex over where the Boeing plant used to be in HB. It's about maybe 5 miles as the crow flies from our house. Might not even be that far.
They didn't even try to hide it from the porch pirates. My wife showed me the delivered pic. Sat it right up on the flower box planter wall for all to see. Sheesh.

^^^ No porch pirates around here...have to worry more about a stray dog.
I wouldn't think twice about leaving a package on the front step for a week.

When I called about the mix-up, the first person I talked to said "We have a picture of your delivered package at your front door"
After I explained that the contents were wrong...he quickly said "We will correct it."

I've had several mixups over the years, but it's still probably less than 0.1% compared to orders, and they've always fixed the glitch by shipping me a replacement promptly for free usually without wanting the return back.

When we lived in Houston, I think we qualified for super speedy shipping (something crazy like 4 hours or maybe even 2 hours). I think orders to the kids' houses often get a choice of either the next morning or next afternoon. We live in the boonies, (still only ~50 miles from a big warehouse or two) but there aren't enough people in our area to qualify for Amazon shipping so everything either comes USPS or more rarely UPS, and is usually 2 days. If I ordered half a dozen things now (Mon evening), I'd probably get them all Wed and/or Thu (depending upon the warehouse they are in). I'm OK with the 2 days.

I don't think I've ever received an empty box. I think I might have received a box once that was supposed to have 8-10 items, that had 1 item missing, and Amazon made it right.

That's one of the great things about where we live, no porch pirates. And that's with the boxes being left at a closed gate 60-75' from the front of the house along the road. But, this is the country and Texas and most folks have a pretty extreme lead allergy...

Its a scam. The target isn't you. The goal of the scam is to create fake reviews and ratings benefiting the company.

Right, I can't remember the name of that scam, but it's come up here a couple of times. But in this case, it sounds like that wasn't the issue. Steve did place an order. When Steve received his box, it had 2 shipping labels, and the contents seemed to be the other person's order, and he never received his order. I don't think the scam involves you not receiving something that you ordered. The scam is that you get stuff that you didn't order and whatever you do order.

You're saying that they did it so that I would write a good review of their actions?
I'm not sure I understand.

Eat it. You cook it (similar to oat meal) and then eat it. IMO, it's better than oat meal.

If you do try to eat it, expect it to have a different consistency. I don't know if you eat or have eaten things like rice meal, malt-o-meal, or any of the other hot cereals that have that sort of texture, but oat bran is more like those than oat meal.

Oat bran has higher fiber and minerals and less calories than rolled oats.

Quote:
A. Micaela Karlsen, a PhD candidate at Tufts Friedman School, replies: The reason many people are interested in eating oat bran is because of its high fiber content, which can aid in satiety and potentially weight loss. Per 100 grams of dry weight (about 3.5 ounces), oat bran contains 15.4 grams total fiber, while oats contain 10.6 grams, and oat bran is also slightly higher in minerals, including magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, as well as vitamins like thiamin, riboflavin, niacin and B6. At the same time, oats provide more energy at 389 calories per 100 grams compared to 246 from oat bran. (Remember, these calories are complex carbohydrates-healthy calories.)

Nope, they have employees to write those reviews for you. In fact, the manufacturer isn't pulling the scam. They hired another company to increase their ratings and reviews. That third party firm is working the scam.

There's money to be made in having good ratings. Even if you have to lie to create them.

^^^It's been a long time since I thought about eating Malt O Meal.
We used to have that as kids with brown sugar on top.

I also remember Johnny Cake...eaten cold with milk and sugar on it for breakfast.

Why even send the product? Why don't they just write a bogus review?

We are a major hub in Columbus, you can get some items in hours. I honestly don't recall a single shipping mistake.
