Will the price of nuts and bolts ever go down?
Just bought two 14x1.5 nuts for $8. Will they ever go down. Ace hardware.
Making me really rethink my hobby’s. |

quantity 25 for 12$ in metric grade 5 equivelant on mcmaster car
Quantity 10 for $9.50 in high strength grade 8 on mcmaster car I think hardware stores build in huge margins on these things because they are a pain to stock so many little items and people are usually not price sensitive when running out for fasteners

Decades ago, I bought two assorted trays of nut, bolts, washers, etc. from a PANO advertiser. One SAE, one Metric. Both automotive hardness grade. Think around $30 each. I've used from both over the years. Living out of town, I don't like making 10-20 miles round trips for an item or two.
A quick search took me here. Prices were a bit shocking, but thought some here might see the need. Bolt grades are important...do some research. https://www.usboltkits.com/

I was in the area and I needed. For that difference, I’ll drive to HD tomorrow and return these. The savings will get me two McChickens. 😀

Rural King is the place to buy nuts and bolts. They sell by the pound.

I know of a pawn shop that sold sockets(from mixed/partial sets in toolboxes brought in) and cheap hand tools by the pound, guy had multiple 55 gallon drums around just full to the brim with them.

Go to a store that sells only nuts and bolts.
Pennies on the dollar. All the box stores are a rip-off and the quality is pretty close to crap, too. |

If you looking for metric hardware, try belmetric. Good quality and prices are pretty good.

Mcmaster Carr and Belmetric have you covered for all of your nuts and bolts. The price is good, but the shipping can shoot the overall price above what I can buy locally (if available).
I installed new springs on my Trailex trailer and bought 14 9/16 grade 8 cad plated nuts, bolts and washers. I bought what I could at Home Depot But had to go to the hardware store to get the rest. By far, the hardware store had a much better selection. I did have to order from Amazon two 9/16 x 4-1/2 bolts, as I could not find them locally |

I buy my bolts, nuts, washers at Rural King or Tractor Supply. I go to Ace Hardware only when it's an absolute emergency. My son went to the local Ace when we were remodeling his house to grab some drywall screws. Yeah... he got screwed alright. I could have bought a 1lb box at Menards for what he bought a small pack for at Ace.
