It's as bad as you imagine it. You just roll with it. It would've been much worse if my grand boys were little and needed their mommy. They were 14 and 15 when it happened.
The Drifter and his lovely wife were just getting going. Their you tube channel was really successful and they wanted to buy their first house this year. I'm sure kids would've followed. Heartbreaking

New - old video posted (one that I'd never seen) and it sounds like at least one or two more on the way.

Apparently, he'd posted this before and had to take it down, but some new law passed that allowed it to be posted again.

Very cool. As i watched it i tried to figure out why it was originally taken down by you tube. A dozen tribes have Grand Canyon connections, maybe some consider the video a violation of sacred ground?

Another new video, but this is a bit different. Instead of visiting someplace in the desert, he visits with a guy that teaches him to make a flint arrowhead.

That was my first thought.

I found the area he highlighted initially but I don't have the resolution he has.

I rowed a baggage boat on the Canyon in the late 1970's and I still have the old maps we used.

Look up Shimuno Falls...there is a white cloud over the area, just like the one over White Sands.

I really love that area.

Watch the Desert Drifter's last adventure on you tube. His dad and best friend dug his camera out of the wreckage of his Tacoma after the drunk driver piled into it causing his death. They were able to download the footage. It's titled "Into the unknown: the Desert Drifter's final voyage"
He finds an amazingly well preserved ruin with intact roof and lots of corn cobs and some really cool pictographs and petroglyphs. Very fitting for his last adventure.

I've been waiting for that one to be posted. Evelyn said that they had footage to post. I assumed life and grief got in the way.

Yeah, crazy. That late at night when there's so little traffic, and so close to home. Clearly, sometimes it's just your time. Sobering. And such a young, positive seeming guy that was married to get taken out like that. Damn shame!

He's got a wonderful presentation style, what a loss.

I lived at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in 1995-1996; it's pretty special place (especially in the winter when all the tourists clear out).

When I was flying air ambulance in AZ one of the benefits of being in a helicopter was being able to fly fairly low. There were several times I would fly past Native American ruins perched on a butte or hilltop and they would be in the middle of nowhere. There are many that are very well known (all over Arizona) but I stumbled across a couple that I don't believe were charted. Absolutely no nearby roads or trails. I recall one cliff dwelling several miles west of Sycamore Canyon (west of Sedona) completely isolated from everything and very inaccessible. I only happened to see it because I was in a helicopter, impossible to see from any other vantage point. Always wanted to go back to that one for a closer look.

Would've been cool to mark those in the GPS and hike back with a drone later. Those you tube explorers find ruins with google earth, a helicopter would be a huge advantage. Then you could start your own you tube channel! 😃

It's interesting. Losing a son, husband, family member, or friend prematurely like that is/would be VERY tough. I'm not sure if having a whole YT channel of that person would be good or bad. You'd be able to go see them, hours, and hours of them, any time that you want, but it would be bittersweet.

I know what you mean. I'd probably not watch them for years but knowing they live on for everyone to see must be gratifying, knowing they will not be forgotten

Many hopi villages line up with the orion constellation.
Researchers in the Amazon have found ancient sites by super imposing various constellations over a map.
Several previous unknown cities have been found.
Maybe this technique could be used in the GC.
