Medicare supplemental plans

What provider are you using for Medicare original supplemental plans?

BCBS, United, Mutual of Omaha, etc....

Share any pros and cons please. I'm need to pick one soon. Currently leaning toward BCBS or Mutual of Omaha.

I chose Aflac. My key criteria was that I wanted to see any doctor I choose, and not have to be referred by my primary physician. The companies I looked at were within $30 per month of each other I think.

I have United Plan F. It is a bit pricey but I haven't had to pay a penny out of pocket. Plan F is no longer available to new enrollees.

That is a loaded question. There are so many plans, your head will explode. I suggest you talk to someone who specializes with the plan options. One size doesn't fit all. It depends on your current health situation, pre-existing conditions, married/not married and the amount of medication you take. Are you planning on staying in the area or moving. The plan makes a difference. What to keep your doctors, there is a plan for that. What I'm about to tell you works for me and probably won't work for you.
I have Aetna and I'm happy with it. I can take this plan out of state as I plan on moving.

One other thing, you should review your plan annually, premiums go up every year and it's best to shop around.

Appreciate the feedback. I "interviewed" three different agents and settled on one to work with. I'm going with plan G since F is no longer available. I just need to decide on a provider. Since you can't change providers with G without underwriting in the future, I'm trying to pick correctly..

Do you have a good relationship with your physicians? Ask to speak to one of their reimbursement specialists (if they have one). They might be able to tell you the one least likely to deny any claims.

Same here and never seem to have to pay for anything. My wife was in the hospital for 2 weeks with a colon problem a few years ago and a week in a rehab place after and never saw one bill. Also have the prescription plan and almost all our medications have been no charge through Optum RX.

Just remember that Medigap is state by state. So my USAA policy choices may not be the same as yours in NM. They go by plans designated by letters, like the "F" mentioned above. The F plan would be the same in terms of coverage state by state but the price can differ due to age, region and even gender.

Things are so unified that your choice should be based on the type of coverage you desire followed closely by how your ins co responds to requests and needs.

I have made a decision on coverage (plan G), it's the last part of your advice I'm focused on now. Thank you

I supplement with Priority Health...which is about the most common one in Michigan. (different rates for different areas.)

With enhanced dental, vision, and hearing....I pay $33/month. Well worth it.
I've had it for 6 years now and haven't paid the dentist one dime....covers everything.

I'm in the same boat, going to have to make the Medicare decision next year...It's all a bit overwhelming so I'm looking into it... have attended some seminars at the local Library to get an understanding...

My Doctor is amazing.. at an appointment last year I asked him about plans that are good for my area.. He straight out said he had no idea... but that when I was ready he'd set up a meeting with his office manager, and a billing specialist and myself..

I haven't had that meeting yet.. but will be having it soon

Is that a supplement (Medigap) plan or an Advantage plan?

I'm really not sure to that question...so I googled it. I do know that the $33 is all I pay after the Medicare cost is taken out of my SS check.

"In NCQA's Medicare Health Plan Ratings 2023, Priority Health's Medicare HMO/POS plans each received 4.5 stars (out of 5), making them the top-rated Medicare plans in Michigan and among the highest-rated plans in the nation."

In the years that I've had it....I've had emergency broken femur surgery, back surgery, twice a year dental visits with fillings and root canals.....Priority Health paid everything that Medicare didn't.
