Dashcam Rec?
Looking for a cheap decent dashcam I could standardize on for all my cars. Just front and rear view. Don’t need bells or whistles. Any recs?

I use Garmin Dash cams. They're not the cheapest but they work well & I've found them to be very reliable. They also have a good range depending on your needs.
You really shouldn't go for a cheaper option because when you need that video you really need it. |
I use Viofo, they are reasonably priced and work fine.

Peter, I've been thinking about getting a Garmin dsshcam. What model/models are you using and which do you like the most?

Consider looking at FitCamX
They custom make OEM looking cameras for many cars. I have installed them in each of my Mercedes. Bluetooth connection, front and rear cameras available. Power taps into existing wiring. Installation for the front camera took 5 minutes. For the Mercedes the front facing only camera cost $200. Other cars are less, a VW ID4 cost $170. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1730021202.jpg Check out the BMW getting too close in my lane http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1730020502.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1730020897.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1730020983.jpg |

Like RNajarian I have gone with FitCamX. It works well and has a variety of power hook ups depending on you model car. I initially went with the adapter to my mirror, but later on bought the separately fused cable to the fuse block. It was not to hard to route the cable past the A pillar air bag. While I have the rear camera I have not yet installed it. I will get to that soon. They also have a couple of universal mount ones that also mount nicely if you don't have a console around the mirror.

Ive standardized our fleet on BlackVue. Made a recent case for USAA finding another driver at fault for $14k while his insurance has not claimed liability much quicker than it would have been otherwise. Captured some close calls. Also, my daughter is a 1-year in driver and hers was installed so that if an accident does happen, they can't pull the 'the inexperienced young female' was clearly in the wrong.
The res is great and app for BlackVue is very easy to use. PS used it to settle an argument between my wife where she claimed, 'I didn't say that.' Welp BlackVue sided on my side of the case. |
