Anyone using a power bank?
Most of my motorcycles are in a couple storage units right now.
Unfortunately there's no power in the units for a battery tender nor does the owner allow a solar panel charger. Usually I rotate riding them often enough I can bring them home and charge the battery overnight and then rotate to the next one. Most have battery tender harnesses on them so very easy to do this. I also have two cars in storage units with battery disconnects for the negative battery posts. They work fantastic - both cars started right up for me today. But most of my bikes didn't because the batteries didn't have enough juice. Do I install disconnects for the motorcycle batteries - it would have to be one on a loom to make it easier to access the switch. Or buy a power bank and hook up a battery tender to them on a rotating basis. The disconnect, if it worked, would be less hassle. Looking for any suggestions and input here....thanks! And before you say I should be riding more often...yeah you're right. A broken rib, hurricane, and family stuff has a way of slowing things up in that department. Battery pack looks easier. Maybe two and swap them out occasionally?

The owner won't allow a solar panel but a battery pack is OK?

How about just carrying a lithium jump box. Hook it up and start the bike....ride.

Do motorcycles have much parasitic draw? In my experience batteries maintain their charge pretty long when completely disconnected, I think a disconnect switch maybe your easiest bet.

I pull all my batteries for storage and assuring a good connections upon reinstall.
Batteries store well but connection corrosion never stops. Also acts as a theft deterrent in rural AZ. |
I just got an 1200 watt Ecoflow Power bank with a 120W solar panel. I'll probably use this in place of my gas generator most of the time during power outages. I haven't put it thru a real test yet, but it seems impressive so far and could easily run a trickle charger for many days.

You are inverting DC to AC then back to DC to keep a battery charged?

But it's not urgent and having a fully charged battery is the gold standard here. Besides.....when you run a bike with an undercharged battery.....it makes the electrical charging system on the bike work harder. I don't want that to happen...lol.... I want a fully charged battery from the moment I turn the key until I'm done riding. The power bank arrived today and I will use it tomorrow and report back. Thanks to all who responded! |
