Does your opinoin on Led Zep change with the whole Lori Madoox thing ?

I have heard rumors of this over the years. They were talking about it on the radio the other morning, and I took a deeper dive .
Jimmy Page, at the age of 25, was courting a 15 year old . Im surprised this whole thing survived the mee too, and cancel cutlure movment .
So, was it just culturally accepted behavior for a rock star at that time, or was it devious in your eyes ?
It has been said, that Jimi asked for Loris mothers blessing and she gave it .
My son and I had a little back and forth on this subject last time he was home. Id love to hear your thoughts .

10 years difference? Girls married at 15? Not all that uncommon a few generations ago. Would 28 and 18 be better? Probably...

Lots of stuff went on in the past that would be frowned upon today. I'm not going to judge their music based on something that has nothing to do with the music and was at least somewhat acceptable back then.

Agree that it was more common back then.

Doesn't bother me as much as the Taurus/Stairway thing does.

In addition to what I said above, I've met folks of varying maturity regardless of their age. So 25/15 may have been a relatively good match.

Different time. That's not even that big a gap back then. I was naive in high school in the early 80's but after the fact I found out about a lot of drugs and sex between teachers and students back then.

Or Peter Grant running roughshod over anyone who displeased him

Or never paying royalties to the writers of the many songs that helped make the band wealthy beyond belief

Or Robert Plant asking "does anyone remember laughter" in a super-cringy way on the live album "Song Remains the Same"

A neighbor girl was 14 and went on the Ted Nugent bus in the 1980’s. I suspect she experienced multiple parties…

rwest 11-14-2024 11:31 AM

No, I still don’t like their music...

Sooner or later 11-14-2024 11:42 AM

Different times, though...

22 year old Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old 1st cousin. It derailed his career for a few years.

Then there's Courtney Stodden who in 2011, was a 16 year old and married a 51 year old guy.

Yup.

Have met teenagers with more maturity than folks in their late 30's.

Where I would be on this, if I trusted the parent's judgement, and the parent's were ok with it, then that is good enough for me.

Drugged out alcoholic parents that beat their kids to sleep every night?
Maybe get her out of there and somewhere else rather than date her, there is a vulnerability there that shouldn't be exploited.

Someone with maturity as a teenager is still missing experience, so what caring parents or guardians provide is life experience to help cover that gap.

I strongly disagree with the way society has taken a bent towards adults bodies with toddler level maturation.

"Arrangement" by Page/Plant on LZ I. Those songs? There were plenty more. E.g., Hangman. I don't know who did and did not get money but that looked really suspect to me in the way back. Not bothered. Too much other clutter.

Bill Wyman married a kid after she was of age but dated her for several years. Mandy Smith. Stunning girl. None of it bothers me as most all are surely doing the nasty (or some form of it) at 14.

Ricky Gervais was joking about the 12 year old age of consent in Mexico. Pretending to be a defendant in a Mexican court, he says "I thought she was twelve". We are so use to 16/18 that it made it funny.

herr_oberst 11-14-2024 02:44 PM

In spite of all the contretemps and debauchery, I still like the music. Here's one of the labels on my toolbox
