Another partial excerpt from the same article:
People living in the region have been caught up not only in Syria’s ongoing civil war but also in Turkey’s conflict with Kurdish-led forces, who established the AANES in 2018 after they - with support from the US-led coalition - drove the Islamic State (IS) group out of the region. Coalition forces are still stationed there to prevent a resurgence of IS.
Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has described the AANES - which is not officially recognised by the international community - as a “terror state” next to its border.
The Turkish government considers the Kurdish militia that dominates the main military force there to be an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) rebel group, which has fought for Kurdish autonomy in Turkey for decades.
The PKK is designated as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the EU, the UK and the US.
Absolutely zero sympathy for anyone living there. We all chart our own destinies, collectively and as individuals. This particular little corner of our globe has been embroiled in this sort of tribal warfare since the beginning of time. The only thing they excel at is hating one another, with all of the fallout associated with that. No one is innocent. In this case, as in so many others in that region, the "innocent" provide safe harbor to the not so...
This region is Turkey's Gaza, its West Bank, its Lebanon and Iran. Turkey has suffered terrorist attacks from this region for far too long. Not that these attacks are undeserved, Turkey has excelled at wantonly murdering its inhabitants as well.
They all suffer from a common disease known as "Islam". Granted, they hated and killed one another along these tribal lines long before Mohamed further incited them, but he sure didn't help. They well and truly deserve one another, and their shared fate. Our (the outside world's) only concern, the only reason we collectively give a shiite (pun intended) is because of their oil. That, and we provided the means through which they can spread their formerly self-contained hatred to the rest of us through the modern weapons through which we hope to buy their favor.
Otherwise we would have no reason to pay attention, much less care. The rest of the world cannot help them.
