The car that saved Jaguar: XJ6 Series 1 sitting 35 years

The XJ6 is the car that saved Jaguar; this video will cover why I think this car is important and share the story of my manual transmission swapped, triple SU carb, limited slip equipped 73 XJ6 Series 1. Hope you guys dig it as much as I do!

Now I know why so many of theses Jags have Chevy motors.

I had the V12 version from 1976. I am pretty sure I could literally see the gas gauge move lower as I drove.

Thanks! Not a huge fan of the V12 tbh. Lot more weight and complexity for not a huge amount more power. The inline 6 is what was so successful in Le Mans, and it's a lot easier to work on. Still annoying to work on though. Plus from what I understand is the engine harness that runs through the valley gets cooked and then it has a ton of electrical problems. Meh.

Big 4.2L XK + triple SUs is rad.

nice! Did you coat the polished intake with anything? Or will it just tarnish?

The straight 6 in my Mustang has 3x1 Webbers on it. They can be a pain.

I like your helper too!

Very fun video...thanks for sharing. Dude, you have skills...and the willingness to tackle something you know little about. A tip of my hat!

If I could get one of those that was a coupe and a standard transmission, that would be fine

I had an 86 VDP with the V12. It was a super comfortable car but was made out of broken.

The V12 power was less than disappointing.

On the upside, I traded that car for my first Porsche, an 87 944.

Totally agree! The V12 was a pain to work on. Luckily I didn't have to do too much to it other than routine maintenance. Even that was no fun to do in a condo community parking lot. I was in my 20s though and would take on many tasks that I probably shouldn't have.

Polished and put a coat of Klasse AIO paint sealant on it.

Thanks PWD, not sure about skills, more just stubbornness and determined to make it happen, lol. But yeah, I didn't know really anything about these cars when I bought it, but when the asking price was about the price of just the triple carbs, I rolled the dice on it. Worst case, I sell the carbs/intake for what I paid for the entire car.

The fact it was a california car, with blue plates, and swapped to manual trans?

Yeah Imma buy a rust free cali car manual swapped almost every chance I get

I'll need to finish the video later. Have to get some work done Love the yellow and the Series I cars. I've always had a soft spot for Jags. I've owned 3 XJ6's. Two Series III cars and a 76 Series II XJ6C. Arguably one of the most beautiful Jags produced. I'd love to have the Coupe back.

I finished watching, well done, I enjoyed that. I sold my coupe several years back to the guy I purchased it from in Eugene OR. He had regretted the sale, replaced it with a 75, and that car burned to the ground in his driveway from a fuel leak. I appreciated the fact your wife was on hand with a fire extinguisher. He was a good guy so I sold it back to him. It helped I was recently divorced and the extra $'s didn't hurt :-)

Hey 1990C4S, how did you post that video in here? It's like 4x wider than any video I've ever posted here. How did you do that?
