Do you think robocalls will ever stop ?

2 -5 or more every day pretty much since can remember having my biz . It is what it is, just part of life, but still annoying .
If I had a dollar for every time, I dropped my wrench , banged my head off a lift, tripped over an air line, and went running to answer the phone , only to get that weird pause, then a telemarketer , I could probably purchase a new set of Mahle p&c's for my ride .
Im guessing there is no incentive to make it stop . Phone company gets paid for every call .
Is it even possible to make it stop ?

Just not in our lifetimes...

Aren't there services that ask the caller to identify themself, then play the recording for you, and you can decide whether to pick up? I could use that.

Right now I simply disable ringing for anyone not in my Contacts list; everyone else gets sent straight to vmail. But that is not feasible for many persons.

I’ve been getting 3 or 4 a day. I just say hello and then remain silent waiting for the pause to end and then they’ll ask for me and I just stay quiet, but stay on the line. Hopefully they think the number is bad and take it off their list; we’ll see.

I get several per day. It could all stop if Congress acted. Simply eliminate the possibility of number spoofing. One call I received I was calling myself! And second, embed called ID in every call, if the number displayed is not the actual number that placed the call, it just does not go through.

I’m now trying an old favorite when they call and ask for me by name- usually butchering it a bit. I tell them “oh, he moved out about twenty years ago” they almost always apologize and say goodbye; hopefully taking me off the list.

I figure if it is someone who was a friend, they would ask if I knew how to get hold of me, of course the pause after I answer is a give away that they aren’t a friend.

I get them on my cell phone and the business phone. I do try to get some entertainment out of ****** with them, but sometimes I do have work to do. Sometimes at work they hand me the phone and say, you can have some fun with this one!

I have had 20+ calls in a day.

It's s bit like Porn... Someone somewhere is making money.

They'll only stop when they're no longer profitable.

They’ll never stop, but after Dec. 7th they should slow down. There was a period of a couple of days when I was getting a call every few minutes. I counted 31 in a 6 hour period. I answer on the few occasions when I think there’s a chance it is a legit call. Very time it has been someone selling Medicare Advantage plans. There must be HUGE profits in those plans. We’re inundated with ads and robo calls. When the Medicare sign-up period ends Dec 7 it all should slow down.

I get loads of these calls...and my policy is that I never pick up the phone unless I am absolutely certain that I know the party being identified on caller ID. Even then I'll sometimes wait until they start recording on my machine to ascertain that their voice is genuine.

But oh...these scammy folks are getting tricky! Lots of calls from numbers listed as being within my area code. Funny as I wait for my outgoing message to end...then mostly there is silence. Sometimes there is a "hello...hello?" basically wanting me to pick up and say that word - "Yes?" A recording of which they can use for all kinds of account-draining activity!

Depressing that its come to this.

I can never be certain whether I know who is calling or not. I'm involved in so many things that I can get a phone call from almost anywhere and it can be one I want to answer. I usually let the calls go to voicemail, but sometimes I pick up. If I get, "Hello, Is this Patrick?" I always answer, "Who is this?" It's almost always something like, "This is Marvin (in an Indian accent :D) I've got a Medicare Advantage specialist on the line, let me connect you."
Most legit callers identify themselves before they ask who answered. I know I always do.

I don't get any since I got my Magic Jack. :)

I put a block one my phone years ago to never receive calls from my own number, that helped a lot.

Lately, my cell provider (Verizon) has added an app "call filter" that lets me set some parameters to block calls, I can vary the strength of the blockage from low to medium to high.....and it works pretty well.

Prior to this, I would get suspected spam calls silenced, but I would still see them come in, and if I felt I should answer, I could.

my point, I feel like most of my spam calls are getting blocked, I only get 1-2 per day, and the filter shows I'm blocking 6-10 most days.

When it becomes illegal to transmit communications for fraudulent purposes, that will put the onus on the phone company to control access to their systems.

It could all stop if gullible people didn't keep signing up for whatever BS pitch the caller was making.

What do they charge you for this service?

It’s free. Or more accurately there’s no extra charge. Or it’s included in my plan.

Whatever the case, I don’t pay extra and it’s worth at least double that.
