Flip Sockets ordered
 

Might not have room in my overcrowded rollaway, but to hell with it, I'll find some place to keep them. Now I can handle prettty much all of the lug nut & bolt sizes.:

Kinda a solution looking for a problem

Sorta...but I have had the problem before. Borrowed a socket from a neighbor. What's the old saw about needing to buy a tool if you've had to borrow it? Plus, I had a $13 credit sitting in my Tekton account, figured I may as well spend it.

You can’t have enough tools. My wife rolls her eyes every time when I tell her I’m buying more tools.

+1 I'm sure they will be spiffy. (My problem is putting them away so they can be found again.)

I have had to use non-impact thin-wall 12 point sockets for lug nuts and did not feel comfortable.

You can drop the cars to the ground so the wheels wont spin and use a big breaker but nah.

I don't get it. They take up the same space as individual sockets.

If I was changing wheels regularly, that might be helpful. I have a set of impact sockets I keep in the plastic case that they came in. I know just where they are, and only use them for the El Camino. My 911 has aluminum nuts so I never ever use an impact on them. I have a soft socket I bought in 1996. I use that to R&R the wheels and of course a torque wrench to tighten them up.

It is rare I find a bolt that needs an impact wrench.

In a normal socket set, you'd have a 3/4" and a 13/16" socket. In this set, you get 1 socket that fits both 3/4" and 13/16" so you replace 2 sockets with 1 socket. Granted, they are a bit longer than a single socket. It seems it would simplify some things.

I will confess to being a tool junkie. However, this 5 socket set covers 10 sizes, which pretty much is all the lug nut & bolt sizes out there. Works with anything 1/2" drive, impact or hand. So yeah, it's like having a 10 sockets lug nut set in a smaller group.

Bob, seems to me you could use a set. I mean, a 12 point chrome socket to remove lug nuts? I can see why you'd be nervous.

Wish they had an 18mm for when the lug nut “cap” inevitably come off a 19mm and leaves a 18mm underneath. Yes you Chrysler products among others

These come free with any of the many one armed extendable lug nut wrenches. Well, they come with 2 sockets, but those actually cover both metric and SAE generally, so it's enough.

I'm also seen a 4 piece set for about half what you paid Tekton. Do you really come across any 1 1/16" lug nuts?

I like Tekton's quality, overall. Have been more than satisfied with other Tekton tools (sockets, combo wrenches, ratchets.) I've bought. I look at Tekton as a sort of USA made Craftsman tools substitute. That, plus having a credit, made selecting Tekton an easy choice. Gotta admit, I don't have a Kenworth...maybe they use 1 1/16" nuts? ;)

Update: The set arrived. Since both Cindy's Toyota and my Mustang both have 21mm lug nuts, my testing has been limited to one size. However, the fit & function using a 1/2" drive breaker bar is perfect.

Considering Snap-on wants over $100 for a 2 socket flip set in a thin plastic tray, I'd say this Tekton set is close to if not pro quality for a lot less outlay.

Anybody want to drive here with a different size lug nut for more testing? ;)

^^^ Thanks for the update . I suggested to my wife this would be a great birthday present to me :D . My impact sockets OD is quite tight on both Porsches and the S10 with aftermarket wheels . They work but if I am not careful they can scratch the lug nut well . These look like a solution for my scenario . SmileWavy

Majority of Tekton tools are made in Taiwan.

Yes...but not China. Everything Tekton I have bought is good quality...very much comparable to the old USA made Craftsman tools that are the majority of my tools.

Would probably work...they are thinner wall than the regular impact sockets (Bought at NAPA) that I have. On the other hand, the thin walls with plastic sides mentioned by Pazuzu should work as well. I had zero clearance problems with Cindy's Toyota with it's factory honeycomb design optional aluminum wheels or my Bullitt Mustang's Ford version of Torque Thrusts.

All that said, I will confess to being a tool junkie, so I bought these mainly for the all sizes thing.

This a great small set of sockets and short extension! I had a similar Tekton set until it went missing last year or so. It’s nice to grab it for the road trip with car trailer and not pick thru your other socket sets. Hope mine shows up again some day soon, or I’ll order this set. Thx for reminding me about this. Christmas is coming soon!
