Crazy United flight passenger

Why did the guy in the row behind just sit there like nothing was happening??
He could have pushed the 'help button'

I would have been worried that he would damage the window.
He didn't look that big..it would have been easy to knock him off his perch.

I'm a reasonably decent sized guy, a bit over 6'1" and just under 200#. I'm not a fighter though. But I think walking by like you didn't notice him and then snagging him and putting him on the ground, or maybe just engaging him in casual conversation (unrelated to the insanity) might also have been another route to take.

But then do you want to be the guy getting sued and put on the no-fly list because you tried to stop a nutter but things get out of hand and somehow you end up on the wrong side of things.

Yeah, someone definitely needed to call a stewardess ASAP.

I'd rather get sued than have a window blown out.
I'm not big...only weigh a buck and a half...but I'm maneuverable. I would grab his shirt and pull and gth out of the way.

He's banned from United...now he'll fly American.

All well and fine until he breaks his neck or the neck of the person that he lands on when you pull him down.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't anywhere near a window. It looked to me like he was trying to stomp his seat back until it was horizontal.

Clearly, the course of action would depend upon the exact details of the situation which is almost impossible to determine unless you're there.

Yeah, he's not at or near the window. He's in the middle seat of 3 seats. His hand is on the side of the seatback away from the window. It looks like the seat back where he's standing is gone, and he's stomping on the tray table that should have been on the back of the missing seat back.

It looks like he's standing where the star is, facing the back of the plane, stomping on the circle.

Maybe so...I still think it's too close to the window to be doing that. They were at full altitude and who knows what would happen if he broke one out...it wouldn't be good.

I hope they did more than just ban him. The article doesn't mention any charges.

Per this article https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14127237/united-airlines-passenger-plane-seat-zip-ties.html

Quote:
This is the bizarre moment that a man was seen repeatedly kicking a seat on a plane before he was restrained and tied up by three other passengers.

Gino, who runs addiction treatment service Hope Interventions, said: 'I woke up to him kicking the seat. The flight attendant walked by a couple times, nobody was doing anything.

'I restrained him and two other passengers were already getting zip ties so we zip tied his hands an feet and seat belted him to the seat. We were 40 minutes from LAX.

'Police came onboard when we landed.'

If one airline banned him, do they all agree to ban him as well? Seems logical.

I found this....

If the airline had to have you removed by the police, and the airline has no agreements with other airlines, the person might be able to fly on another airline. The airlines are still talking about creating a unified all-airline no-fly list, as soon as they can agree what justifies putting someone on such a list.

Garage
Obviously mentally unstable.
Trying to talk to the guy should be the first step.
Not grabbing him and doing a WWF body slam on him.
