The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kozinski. In real life, Kozinski rode a stationary bike with a plastic bag covering his head until dead. His thoughts were pretty dark.
It was a rather prescient version of DEI.

I'm struggling to get through an Erik Larson book about Marconi. His Devil in the White City book and another on Nazi Germany were excellent. This one is sharply different in that it appears he ran out of talent rather suddenly. Awful.
