I don't think EVs are all rainbows and unicorns, but I suspect they're a step in the right direction. Solid state batteries are supposed to have more energy density, and less cost and weight. I'm not clear on the environmental impact. ICE engines have an environmental impact of course, so which fork in the road to take? I'm not in favor of 100% mandates, but some steering of the way things go is probably needed. There was lots of squawking about fuel economy and emission mandates, but overall we seem to be in a much better place now. Generating electricity more cleanly is certainly part of the solution. Long long term fusion?

Wife has a Tesla. Great city car, but absolutely worthless if you want to travel at all. She recently drove it from Rochester NY to Columbus OH. It was cold, and the battery performance goes down the tubes. What should have been a 6 hour drive took 9 hours. She encountered broken chargers, and it took forever when she did find one. I told her to do what she should have done 2 years ago when she got it, and buy a Toyota hybrid of some kind. Our 20 year old Lexus has 160k on it, still running strong. Did I mention that she bought the f**king thing instead of leasing, just before they slashed prices on them. I'm not bitter. No really. EDIT: End of this story is that I am going to get stuck with the Tesla to use as a commuter car, which is fine. I only drive like 30 miles a day. And they ARE fast.
