Lost a Good Friend Yesterday
 

George was a solid cop and an even better man. He was a Field Training Officer for several years and developed about 40 men and women to serve the communities. He was very quick witted and fun to be around. He left patrol to work a Youth Athletic Program where he lead a group of "Explorers" teaching them by example and hard work. George raised beautiful Cane Corso dogs as his passion. He was always there for anyone who needed help. When my oldest brother unexpectedly passed away in 2016, I learned the news while serving as the Watch Commander. George was the first to walk up to me and give me a much needed hug. It was exactly what I needed and he knew it.

Sadly, George took his own life yesterday. I don't understand and never will. Suicide is the number 1 killer of cops.

Awful news to hear . RIP George and strength to all family and friends .

Very sad news and yes, it's a huge public health issue for cops. I personally don't think that it's as simple as the fact that cops see a lot of grim stuff...that's a contributing factor but it's more complicated, IMO. I don't have answers.

Somehow; the despair they feel gets translated into the desire to not have that pain hurt others.

David, so very sorry to hear about George. My old partner Travis, just took his life this afternoon. Its because of him that I met my wife.. RIP to both our old friends...
