Had to clean out my drawers

After a decade or so of randomly throwing stuff in the lap drawer of my desk (mostly just to get it out of sight) it finally got to the point where there was so much junk in the drawer that I couldn't get it closed.

The drawer was packed with radom, mostly useless, stuff. How many envelope openers does a man need? I had 5.

Old pen knives, rubber bottle stoppers, dashboard knobs from a Porsche 356, plastic exhaust stack for a model farm tractor - yes, it's all precious stuff, but I had to draw a line.

I made a small pile of old cables, iPhones, an iPad, and misc. junk to go to electronics reclycling.

I found the pen that was given to me when I left my aerospace career.

It's a testament to how long I resisted cleaning out this drawer that I have a dash plaque from a rallye I ran in 1969 or 70, a Nixon/Agnew button, and IBM cards. For some reason I have a retractable fingernail cleaner from a car dealer that has been out of business for 50 years and a tiny, functioning, camp light. I don't know what a 1/4 nickle bellows is or what it's for, but I have one!

MUCH BETTER!
Getting organized was such a satisfying feeling that I went crazy and cleaned out every drawer in my desk.

Nice! Yep, sometimes you need to go through stuff and get rid of the crap.

That reminds me, I need to thin out my drawer of white, Costco, cotton socks. Some of you know what I'm talking about.

That was my first thought as well. I was thinking "what catastrophic event did he narrowly miss?"

Oh, a pet peeve of mine:
random collections of old pens.
Makes me cringe.

I use only Bic fine point pilot precise V7RT pens.
All others go in the trash immediately.

except of course for gift and award-type pen/pencil sets.
I have a place to store those in an organized fashion
even though they never get used.

If that iphone still works - even plug in only - and youre just going to recycle it, I'll pay postage and handling to my house if you'd send it to me. I'm using an old iphone to control some indoor lighting and I recently dropped it and broke the gorilla glass.

Please, please, don't throw away anything. You may need it one day.

I had an Ike/Nixon pin for years that my dad gave me. It got lost. Just as well; I only kept it for ironic purposes.

Yes. I worked at the Aeromed lab in college and in the Materials labs after I graduated.
