#$&@*!!! Apple and the iOS update!
My iPhone automatically updated to 18.2.
Lots of changes for the sake of changing. The royal pain in the rear is email! My business email is an Exchange account, that is on our domain. When I try to send or receive, it says I have to re-enter my password. Then a window pops up saying it wants too use Microsoft.net to sign in. I did not have to before. OK, touch continue, and I have a choice, Work or School or Personal. I chose work, and it wants too use the Authenticator App. Ring around the Rosie with numbers, and fail. Golly this is fun. Thanks Apple! |
I NEVER let anything "update automatically". I think I have everything set to "download and notify" then I can decide when/if to update.
I'm sure that there's a setting in your email that you need to change. But yeah, it's a beyotch when an update makes a big change. |
My condolences. My iPhone and iPad updated and suddenly I couldn't store any photos. It turned out
some setting had been changed. I wish there was some minimum update that you could do that would fix the "security issues" and not add unwanted "features." When I got the 18.2 update a new app was added - "Passwords." I don't keep passwords on my phone or iPad except for the apps I use because I don't want to be carrying my passwords around. I want to leave them all at home. But there were a bunch of passwords from my computer on my phone! I don't know how they got there. It seems Apple assumes they know how to run our lives better than we do. I'm about ready to get an Android, but I don't know if they're any better. "When I try to send or receive, it says I have to re-enter my password. Then a window pops up saying it wants too use Microsoft.net to sign in. " That is a known problem from a previous update. I was able to enter 2 Gmail addresses the old way, but then I started getting that message. |
I'm at 18.1.1 and after last update my email doesn't sync, that is if I delete an email on my computer, it doesn't get deleted on the phone.

You'd need to go into your iCloud settings on all of your devices and disable things that you don't want going to the cloud or don't want to get sucked down from the cloud into those devices. If you turn it off on the PC, then it won't go to the cloud and no other devices will be able to access the information. If you turn it (email, chats, passwords, images, etc....) off on the phone, then it'll be in the cloud, but your phone won't be able to download it (unless your phone gets configured to talk to the cloud for that item). If you want to be really secure, then make sure nothing talks to the cloud, but then you are probably going to lose some functionality that you want. I'm pretty sure that stuff has always been accessible from your phone, it just wasn't so obvious. |
Not to mention it changed my notifications to show on lock screen. I had to go through a hell of a lot of apps to turn that off.
At least my phone's too old for "apple Intelligence" |
After several rounds of logging in and using the Microsoft app for exchange, and the Microsoft Authenticator app, I got is working. It worked fine for over a decade before, but now it is "new and improved" and a royal pain to get it working.

I want to go back to a flip phone

I can't even imagine going back to life without my smart phone. It is a wonderful tool for my needs. My first cell phones were just phones, and smartphones are worth the money to me. I am still using my iPhone 11 Pro, and it does all I need it to do. I have no plans to update to a newer version. |
As a young puppy dawg systems programmer and operating systems guru... I learned something which made life easier .... much easier :D.
But sometimes I had to ignore what I had Iearned ... and wuz taught not to do that ;) |

I've upgraded phones only as the 2G-5G(UC) evolved and the legacy networks "shut down". All I've ever needed (or wanted) is a native browser on my phone... no apps ... none. My speed/bandwidth needs haven't changed in 15 years.
My phone is just like it shipped ... lean & mean and just works ... I do reset it every year or so .... whenever Sugarbritches tells me I'm an idiot for using such an old phone :D. I lived the "bleeding" leading edge of data networking stuff for years .... I had arrows in my back to show for it too :(. What I do works for me ... always has .... ymmv. |
I really hate Apple's constant upgrades for the sake of upgrades (or to slow down old devices) and their constant "log onto your iPad located in timbuktu to confirm your apple ID".
But.... I got a second non-apple phone and a PC instead of a mac, and in both cases the UI is freaking horrible by comparison, it never works as well, and I'm having the same issues with the PC that replaced the mac - for some stuff it's great, for dealing with music it's the pits... I go back and forth between hating apple's annoying upgrades/logins and the rest's "lack of apple like integration". It all sucks, LOL, flip phone indeed !!! There's a funny meme about my generation being angry because we had our music on Records, had to rebuy buy cassettes or CDs, then digital, and now it's all streaming services, and there is something very true about that ;-) They all make it hard to not subscribe !!! |

"I tried to login to that server and got 'access denied'. I haven't changed anything. What's wrong with the network?" |
Dang it! I should’ve read this thread before doing the update!
|
Before I read this, I tried to do the update, and it didn’t happen. I’ll leave it like it is now.
|
I did the update hoping it would fix email syncing but it didn't. Nothing bad happened. The new email UI is cluttered with an icon on left. I will check to see if you can revert back to no icons.

My Exchange account is working now that I got it all figured out. For those of you that don't use exchange, it allows my multiple computers and iPhone to sync all the email. If I delete it from my phone iit vanishes from my computer email. It only works if I am using Microsoft Outlook, the real outlook that is part of the office package. Outlook express does not support it.
The real handy part for my is syncing my calendar. If I add an event on the computer, it appears on my phone. And of course the reverse. With Outlook, I can have more control of the appointment or event's information. It iis easy to add in the address of the place, or notes. As I said before, it is my second brain. To be able to see my schedule from any device is just handy. |
Bluetooth connectivity seems to be an issue for me. My connection to my Rav4 was seamless but now for some reason it's messing up. I've gone through all of my settings but can't find what might have changed to cause the problem.
