Aromas you like - and don't
The Blindfolded Ladies thread got me thinking about aromas that I like and don't like.
Off the top of my head ... Likes: I like the smell of a rebuilt engine when it is first started up. The smell of assembly lube burning off is a rare treat. Gasoline exhaust from a carbureted engine on a cold morning. My wife, pretty much any time. Puppy breath. Bread right out of the oven. Go Kart exhaust - when we ran alcohol and caster oil Alfalfa hay drying in the field I keep adding to the likes. I think about what I like more than I think about what I don't like. :) Don't like: Any kind of perfume or cologne Raw diesel fuel Cat pee |
Fresh coffee early in the am filtering upstairs to wake me.
That forest smell of decaying vegetation. Fresh rolls baking. |
Likes: Racing fuel, leather, diesel fuel, cookie dough, fresh cut grass, fresh cut flowers, my wife's cornbread, cedar wood, bourbon!!!
Dislikes: stinky men's bathroom at work, makes me want to puke, rotten eggs, rotten anything for that matter, some perfumes, original old spice cologne, Jovan Musk cologne, Polo cologne, I hate all that stuff. [emoji1] Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk |
I like the smell of baking cookies, or most foods cooking. Puppy breath is a good one. Fresh cut grass, and popping a cold beer after mowing.
I hate diesel exhaust and diesel fuel. I will never own a diesel powered vehicle for sure. The bad BO of unwashed people is gross. |
The tire store
Oranges Gentle rain on hot asphalt New-fallen deep snow Combusted nitromethane combined with burnt rubber A very faint whiff of a freshly lit cigarette |
The smell of diesel dozers and backhoes on a construction site is the smell of progress.
Yet the same smell from a diesel pickup truck in a starbucks parking lot is repulsive. |
Freshly baked banana chocolate chip muffins.
Coffee beans. Evergreens As opposed to: Decaying animals (found the remains of a hawk kill on the roof the other day. ) Best Les |
Airplanes burning 100 octane avgas- Good.

I like the smell of nubuck leather, like the interior of a really old car, or a high end sofa. Another smell I like is aged and cured tobacco.
I also enjoy wearing perfume. It's always floral toned with notes of spices. I don't enjoy smelling like a sofa or tobacco barn. What I dislike is the smell of marijuana, followed closely by tobacco that's been smoked. Having it on a guy's breath is just nasty. I also don't like the smell of bedding brake pads. That smell makes me quite queazy and dizzy. |
