PPI in Athens, GA or towards Dahlonega/north east Atlanta

So… I’m looking at a 86 911 Carrera and looking for a place to do a PPI. Anybody have suggestions for a shop in Athens, GA, Gainesville, Lawrenceville,Dahlonega* or Northeast Atlanta?

Anybody in Athens to take a look at the car?

* Isn’t Air Cooled Classics in Dahlonega?

Thanks!

I'm in Lawrenceville - 45 mins or so from Athens - but no Porsche shops nearby to my knowledge.
My indy is about 30 mins away in Suwanee. The Eurospot - (770) 932-5267. Paul is the owner/lead mechanic.

But Graham Everett is up at Road Atlanta which might actually be closest - and he's got quite a reputation and history.

Thanks. I’ll give them a call tomorrow.

The car is actually in Bogart, a little closer to you.

^^^ That’s what I first thought!

I called a Porsche repair place in Athens, and the lady I talked to was absolutely clueless about a PPI, leak down test, compression check, pulling valve covers to check for head studs, etc. No Thanks I’ll find another place.

What’s the going rate for a PPI… compression check, leak down and pull the lower valve covers to check for broken head studs?

I paid about $600 a few years ago for a thorough 356 PPI in Northern Cal.

These guys are extremely competent… Classic air cooled vehicles are questionable, but it wouldn’t hurt to give them a call.

I found a shop in Athens, and the guys have a few personal 911’s.

Take a look at the compression/leak down numbers. The guys are saying cylinders number two and four, have leaky exhaust valves.

While it’s not a huge deal, for them to pull and reinstall the heads was about $6500. Not including machine work. If I buy the car, I would do it myself.

Do you think it’s fair to negotiate $5000 off the asking price?

I would use those results to negotiate a lower price . Has the seller commented about the PPI results ?

I sent them to him a few minutes ago. Wanted to give him a chance to look at the information. I’ll call him shortly and use it as a negotiating point.

I’ll do the work myself, but I’m thinking $6300 for labor and $2000 for machine work. I’ll tell him I’ll split the $8300 with him. That seems fair to me. Then it depends how much he wants to play hardball.

I looked at the VIN and it was sold on BAT in 2018 for $38,000. If that was him buying it. he’s got some room to negotiate.

After rounding it off to $8000 for labor and machine work, I talked to him and we’ll split the difference at $4000 off the asking price.
